Thanks to brkstoutfiend for the trade!
Pours a thick, solid black with a big tan head that lingers and laces.
Smells of coffee, chocolate, caramel, woody, vanilla frosting, and is decadent like a cake.
Taste is up front roast with some dark coffee notes that fades into a boozy, sweet middle and ends on an astringent (think oak tannin) character with notes of chocolate that lasts and lasts. Sweet, astringent, alcoholic.
Heavy body with lower carbonation. The alcohol presence is far too high. Almost cloying but not quite.
Big, sweet, roasty, and alcoholic. It is interesting and different if not quite as complex as it could be (given the blend). The alcohol and sweetness bring this one down, particularly the alcohol, which stands out against the rest of the beer. Good enough but not great.
