Thanks for this one irishtimepiece and grub!
Shared this with a fellow BAer in our weekly wednesday tasting.
Poured a beautifully elegant black. This beer definitely lives up to the dark aspect of its name. Beautiful dark toffee and caramel finger head that really makes this beer look one of a of a kind. Reminds me of Darkness but with a better head. My eyes just orgasmed..
My nose feels like its on cloud nine. Initially, the scent was filled with tons of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, and slight woodiness. As the beer warms, the smell only deepens as expected. The woody scent mentioned earlier become more prevalent, making the beer smell like it cam straight out of a cask. Coffee, toffee, and some caramel come out as the beer has warmed. Burnt fruits and roasts are coming through wonderfully. This is amazing.
The taste is exactly what the smell eludes to. It is blended wonderfully, and is a spectacular representation of the style. Tons of charred plums immediately hit the taste buds, and progresses into a smooth burnt series of the flavors mentioned above in the nose section. Great bitter coffee tastes on the tail helps to pull this beer together very well.
The beer has the stickiness of molasses, the creaminess of milk (they had to have thrown in a ton of oats).
Could have one everytime I grab for a stout, but the thickness is semi deterimental to the speed this beer can be consumed at.
