09 Vintage poured into snifter.
A - Deep, dark black with ruby highlights. However, tan head dissipates quickly and leaves little to no lacing.
S - Not as in your face as expected. Some dark cherry and candied fig esters, but not as much chocolate/coffee as expected.
T- The taste is sweet and fruity at first. A lot of molasses and brown sugar, followed by cherries and dates. I also faintly get apple, perhaps a faint aldehydic note. Some roast and hop bitterness kick in at the end, and the heat from the alcohol lingers.
M - The mouthfeel is second to none. Phenomenal body and mouthfeel, and perfect carbonation.
D - Pretty heavy, but deliciously drinkable
Overall, it didn't quite live up to the hype in my opinion, but still an exceptional beer. I would've liked a little more coffee and chocolate flavor from the roasted malt, and a little more hop balance to the sweetness. I also would recommend giving this one much more time in the cellar.
