Serving type- 08 Vintage poured into a tulip glass.
A- Pours a magnificant jet black with a resounding 3 finger deep khaki tan color. The cling to the glass is also very superb and stays throughout. This is one of the nicest looking beers I have ever seen.
S- To start I am picking up some raisin notes followed by a malty and chocolaty finish. There are also subtle hints of coffee as well.
T- The great thing about this beer is that it mellows and becomes more flavorful as I allowed the beer to warm. Right of the bat I picked up the roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee in addition to a small ending hint of tobacco flavors; however after a few minutes the beer had a chance to warm up and this is where I get a nice big consistant helping of chocolate flavoring. This is a very tasty RIS and for its ABV suprisingly lacking in alcohol taste.
D- As mentioned above for the apparent strength of this beer it have a very high drinkability rating. I have consumed 'weaker' beers only to be hit with a harsh alcohol presence. This beer has none of that.
I have been saving this bottle for over 2 years and am very happy that a. I waited and b. It lived up to it's hype. This is a phenominal beer and one that I look forward to acquiring more of in the future.
