750 ml bottle, can't find a date unless its on the cap, in which case I can't read it anyway, poured into a snifter.
A- Pours a hazy amber/garnet color, capped with a huge creamy inch-thick white head, eventually settles down to a thin layer but leaves crusty, thick lacing all over the glass, looks awesome.
S- The aroma is super powerful, very hoppy and citric, but what really stands out to me is the buckwheat aroma, it smells delicious and unlike any other beer I've ever smelled, some sweet booze in the back as well.
T- Big citric, piney hops and booze up front. Huge malts as well, very spicy and thick with some caramel and toffee sweetness that sticks to your teeth. Booze is very complex and not overly sweet, for 10.4% ABV I'm pretty surprised at how drinkable it is. Finish has a long hop bitterness that wrestles with lingering sweetness. All of the flavors are big and aggressive but work very well together.
M- Full-bodied, super thick, chewy feel, good carbonation.
O- A fabulous beer, really top notch, it's cool to see a wheatwine done with buckwheat, it really does provide an interesting extra dimension to an already massive beer. I'm glad I still have a bottle left, but I already know it's not going to be enough.

I can't believe I didn't rate this one when I had it, unfortunately my notes have no date on when I tried this one, but here is what my notes say on it...
Pours a cloudy hazy amberish brown color, with a super thick off white khaki head. Smells very malty with a hint of hoppy sweetness. Initial taste - malt bomb but very pleasant balanced finish with aftertaste slightly bitter and sweet. low carbonation definitely unlike anything else, probably thanks to the buckwheat! good boo goop!

Appearance: deep orange hinting towards red. almost opaque but just barely able to see through when held to the light. bubbly off white head that leaves a lacing behind
Smell: figs and dark fruit along with a strong wheat backbone. quite a bit of strength to the smell but not quite alcohol
Taste: opens up with figs that mix with the wheat that consists of most of the beer. ends with a strong hoppiness and slight alcohol bite
Mouthfeel: fairly light and wheaty. ends with a bit of bitterness from hops and alcohol
Overall: a fairly good but overall disappointing beer. Three floyds is talked up a lot and this one let me down a little especially for the steep price tag
Serving type: on-tap
