Pours murky rusty red. A bit of lacing. Little retention.

A bit of a weird aroma. Lots of vinous, tannic notes along with some rye spice with booze.

Tastes similar. Not really bad, but just weird. It hasn't really coalesced. Tastes like someone just dumped a glass of dry red wine into a barleywine. Very dry and just overall weird.

As mentioned finishes very dry with a medium mouthfeel and adequate carb.

Don't really know what to think of this one. There was nothing off on this and it didn't taste like paint thinner like some BA FFF releases, but it wasn't particularly good either. Just sort of meh.

750 ml bottle, 2011 vintage. Bottle # 322/386. Found a bottle of this stuff for a good price so i couldn't resist. Written on the bottle as Cuvee Du Viking. "Barrel Aged Beer". No abv listed anywhere, so it is a mystery. My first bottle from any of Three Floyds' Dark Lord Day release beers, and i'm excited to have it! Released in 2011, this bottle has been aged 5 years.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a murky swampy caramel-toffee infused looking brown body. Looks like liquid caramel. Still manages to conjure about a half finger of bubbles, and a khaki ring, with some slight sticky spotty lacing. Not the most attractive looking beer, but I can't doubt it for a 5 year old barleywine.

S - Aroma is hugely musty. Big notes of oak and damp wood. Caramel, toffee, brown sugar, mustiness.

T - There is actually a lot going on here - musty from the barrel, with notes of oak wood, toffee, vanilla, black tea, caramel, brown sugar, port, cranberry, figs, dates, raisins, cherry stems. Not really tart or sour at all. "Red wine" never really comes through to me. It's more oaky and musty than anything, with caramel, vanilla, & dark fruits becoming more and more pronounced as the beer continues to warm.

M - The feel comes off a bit thin / watery for the style. The body is crisp & creamy; semi-sticky & sweet, with residual burnt brown / caramelized sugars. The abv doesn't really feel or taste like anymore than 9.00%, which probably isn't far off. (Ruggoop is 9.50% abv).

Overall, definitely a unique and interesting beer from Three Floyds. I'm very grateful for the opportunity to have a bottle of this; of 386 bottles, there probably aren't very many left now - I suggest drinking it now if you have it.

Thanks to JustXBeer for sharing this one at Tieman's tasting.

Bottle # 311/386.

Pours a murky honey brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, brown sugar, caramel, bourbon, and slight sour fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with bourbon and slight sour fruit flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of woody bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is drinkable but I can't tell if there is a slight infection or the red wine barrel aging is making things slightly sour.

BA Roogoop.

Looked like Mississippi River water. Tasted like something that probably shouldn’t have been aged. There was some bourbon burn, some rye tang, but it mostly was just thick and alcoholic.
