Notes/Commercial Description:
In the seemingly endless cruelty, battle, and strife of the Hyborian age, a warrior has but two pleasures: Decimating one’s enemies in battle, and a horn of Cimmerian Sabertooth Berzerker to slake the thirst of victory.

BOTTLE: 1 pint 6 fl oz. Branded pry-off pressure cap. Brewed 12/09/14.

Reviewed live as a pale ale per the label. Served cold into a Guinness goblet at high altitude in Castle Rock, Colorado. Expectations are high given the brewery and this beer's current ratings.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: 1 finger wide head. White colour. Nice creaminess, thickness, fullness. Retention is good - about 5-6 minutes. No lacing sticks to the sides of the glass as the head recedes.

BODY: Translucent gold-copper of good vibrance. Clean; no yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible.

Appears well-carbonated. It's a good looking pale ale. I'm looking forward to trying it.

AROMA: Tropical hop notes dominate atop a pale malt foundation. Mango, faint tangerine, vague citrus, floral hop notes, and mild resinous character. The hop bitterness seems insufficiently tamed by the pale malt sweetness.

Aromatic intensity is mild.

TASTE: Heavy tropical hop notes, including mango and (unfortunately) pineapple - a hop note I always despise in beer. The foundation is pale malts. Too sweet and too fruity for my tastes. I want more of a resinous and oily character. It's not too well balanced.

No alcohol or off-notes come through. Depth and duration of flavour are average. Flavour intensity is quite high for a pale ale, bordering on an IPA. It's complex for a pale ale, but without balance that doesn't count for much. There's some limited subtlety here.

TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, crisp, overcarbonated, medium-bodied, aptly thick, and slightly pulpy.

Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, rough or scratchy.

OVERALL: Downable but forgettable. A surprisingly pedestrian and unfortunately tropical fruit-dominant pale ale flavour profile. Not very good work from 3 Floyds, but I'll chalk it up to personal tastes; I just can't stand pineapple in beer. Meh.

This has some great stuff going on: huge hops, solid malt backbone, fruity, nice sweet and spicy character but also drinks boozier than the Abv suggests, making it a bit tough to drink too much of this. Alcohol sweetness.

A friend picked up a bomber at the brewpub. This one pours a cloudy orangish color. There was a thin off white head that left no lacing. Pine, orange and pineapple notes to the nose. Maybe a bit peppery. The taste is very good. Somewhat bitter, with a fuller body. Pineapple notes, orange, lots of malts, with no sweetness. Very Nice!
