Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

A special rye beer brewed in collaboration with our friends at Reckless Records. Brewed with American 2-row barley & rye medium bodied ale has a sweet caramel biscuit body and a deep golden color. A special blend of hops gives this rye ale an aroma of resiny tangerines & blood fruit. Cheer!

A - Pours a clear light copper with almost two fingers of white head. Head has good retention and leaves some spotty lacing. A small stream of carbonation rises slowly in the middle of the glass.

S - Nice big citrus aroma, with orange, some grapefruit zest and some subtle sweet malts.

T - Hops and malts are pretty evenly matched here. Definitely not an APA posing as an IPA, but still a nice hop presence, especially on the initial taste and with some lingering bitterness on the finish. Rye brings a nice subtle spiciness to the taste. Similar to smell, the hops are very citrusy.

M - Medium mouthfeel is very smooth, and finishes clean and dry with some bitterness.

O - Very enjoyable APA. Crisp and clean with a nice complement of malt. For the price point, I would still take Red's Rye to get my rye fix, though the hop profile here is very nice. If this made it into the FFF year-round six-pack line up, I could see this being a regular purchase.

Mad thanks to justanothergalen for bringing this to trade at the Solar Eclipse party!

Pours out a vibrant gold color with phenomenal clarity for anything with rye in it. Lots of citrus and hoppy aroma going on, couldn't pick anything up in the aroma that would lead to me saying "rye!" but whats most important is that this smelled like a hoppy winner.

Taste, wow amazingly light bodied, this one was a lot more similar to zombie dust and gumballhead than I would have thought based on my expectations. Hops are so good and fresh, and it must have a decent shelf life, because I didn't drink it until at least 2-3 weeks after it had been trekked out here 2000 miles. Just another example of a brewery that makes great hoppy beers, being overshadowed by something bigger, in this case, Dark Lord. This tasted as good as FiftyFifty's Ryepa used to. . . i.e. in that small window when its real good or fresh, but the last few times, just all bitterness.

This is relatively straight forward, and if you're looking for just the rye, you might be disappointed, but if you're looking for minimal, but adequate rye aspects in a world class hoppy beer, go no further.

Oh, and the bitterness and sweetness are so low here, its just a ton of hops, mild citrus flavors, and fractional rye impact. If it were in their portfolio, this would be the most deserved beer in the Yum foods brand.

Bottle poured into a GI tulip

A - A great looking beer. A light copper beer with streams of gold on the edges. Poured with a huge, off white head composed of small bubbles of carbonation. Settled to a nice rock of foam sitting on top with a ton of lacing as you drink it

S - Rye spicyness dominates up front. There are hints of black pepper, slight lemon peel and nice, bready malt.

T - Definitely get the rye profile initally. As it carries on, there's lemon peel and a slight hoppy bitterness. There is a thick bready malt near the back end and a slight caraway seed that lingers on with the lemon peel. Complex and well-balanced.

MF - Thick body with slight carbonation. There is a slight rye spicyness that lingers on the tongue on the finish similar to what you'd find in a good Rye whiskey.

O - A great rye beer that is well balanced, brings a nice rye spicyness and brings something different from what we are used to. I'll be curious to see how Rye da Tiger compares to this one and hope they make this one again.

From a bomber poured into a duvel tulip. Pours a clear orange copper with an inch of off white head that shrinks with nice lacing. Aroma is tangerine, pine resin, grapefruit, apricot, and rye. Flavor follows aroma. Blood fruit, tangerine, grapefruit, some tropical fruit, and a rye based malty backbone. Thin to medium mouthfeel. Very good.

Thanks, Florida9 for grabbing me one of these at DLD.

Golden orange body, about the color of apple juice. It's clear and has an average white head.

Aromatic grapefruit and tangerine hops with a hint of biscuit malt.

Grapefruit, tangerine, light malt, and nice peppery finish.

Fresh and clean mouthfeel with moderate carbonation.

A damn good rye pa. The peppery rye and citrus go well together.

a: translucent copper. three finger head

s: citrus. caramel. getting a bit of honey as well. not much of the rye.

t: citrusy (esp grapefruit) hops. more rye presence here than in the aroma - peppery finish

m: medium body. clean finish.

o: I've seen references to this as Zombie Dust with rye and I think it's a good quick description. Very tasty.

Brewed in collaboration with Reckless Records for Record Store Day 2012.
Thanks to Jim for this surprise beer I thought was long gone...

Burnished orange, saturated tones with steady rising carbonation trails. Creamy foam that adheres nicely inside the glass leaving behind a halo of lacing. Extremely resilient head retention, unbroken for the duration of the glass.

Dried citrus peel and tangerine zest, some light spiciness and finally pale malt bleeding through.

Burly rye character, grainy with a mild spiciness shot through with zesty citrus notes of grapefruit and tangerine. Citrus tea and pine needles. Somewhat subdued after a few months but still holding its own and extremely drinkable. Medium bodied with a dry bitter finish, very light malt sweetness in the background. Overall very solid, with FFF's trademark hop signature all over it.
