Poured into Kuhnhenn tulip

Pour: Dark, dark red? Almost brown in color with a 2 finger head. No light penetration.

Smell: Big notes of the raspberry up front with a sweet caramel malt. Some notes of the Rye with a spice to the nose.

Taste: Again the raspberry dominates and I do get the spice from the rye. A sweet beer for sure and one I'd consider as dessert beer. Sweetness and raspberry with a touch of toffee. Actually a one dimensional beer and not very interesting to the palate.

Mouthfeel: Quite thin and disappointing with little to no carbonation.

Overall: Not mind blowing and pretty disappointing considering the price tag. (641 characters)

Bottle poured into a FFF tulip

A - Dark brown with a slight ruby red hints. There is a small white head that sits on top

S - Sweet, syrupy raspberries that smells slightly artificial with a rye bourbon kick. Slight maltiness that I'd expect from the Robert the Bruce.

T - Sweet caramel, bready malt with sweet raspberries. There is definitely some templeton Rye barrel presence that you get which gives it a soft spicyness that lingers in the finish.

MF - Thick, sticky body that fits the flavor profile well. There is a slight barrel astringency that lingers in the finish.

O - This is new twist on Robert the Bruce that adds a new dimension wiith the sweeter raspberries and a slight rye presence. Worth tracking down this beer if you want to try the new twist. I do wish it is done in Bourbon barrels or a bigger rye to give it more of a dimension than the Templeton does (880 characters)

Was fortunate enough to stumble into the brewpub as they were pulling the last 7 cases of Cabra out for sale. The guy at the beer to go point of sale said that he was certain it was all gone until they broke these few cases and and told him they were the final cases. I'll say it up front, it's a decent beer overall but not worth the $35/bottle except for the novelty of it all. It's a beer worthy of the changing of the seasons and a nice transition but not lofty enough for the price tag.

The pour is fairly uneventful with light lacing and no discernible head. Bourbon brown and a touch oily... The nose makes up for what this brew lacks in appearance coming in with heavy raspberries, a touch of woodiness/earthiness (maybe oak), light whiskey, sweet malts... Pretty inviting.

At first, my palate seems tricked. I almost taste a touch of sourness as this dry-finishing beer sweeps across my tongue. Definite berry flavor dominating most others... What seems to be caramel/crystal malts seem to strike a cord with sweetness which rounds out the perceived sourness quite nicely. Although good, this is fairly mediocre which I don't typically expect from FFF. Again, dry finish makes one feel as if they are drinking a wine more so than a beer and it's dryness that lingers in my mind as the dominant character of Cabra.

Overall decent. It's a novelty, as I mentioned previously. If this was a fall release, I'd gladly pay ~$10 a bottle but no more. (1,454 characters)

A - Dark brown beer with a bit of a tan head that formed a decent ring and left some random spots on the glass.

S - Surprisingly, the base beer is not demolished by the other stuff going on in this. Robert the Bruce comes through nicely, with a bit of butter and butterscotch. That said, there is a ton of berry aroma, and only a touch of the whiskey.

T - Decent taste on this one. Berries, caramel, butter, a bit of sweetness and a touch of oak. Not a ton of whiskey, but that's probably good as it might have wrecked the beer by overpowering it. They really didn't scrimp on the berries, as there is a lot.

M - Medium bodied, moderate carbonation.

O - Nice beer, something different that worked. Very unique, I'd recommend trying this for people who are looking for a new type of beer experience. (834 characters)

#243/579. 750ml red waxxed bottle into a tulip glass. Huge thanks to apocalypsezombie for this bottle.

A - Pours a very dark red body with a two finger high light tan head. Settles down to a thin cap with thick edging and tight bubbling. Average amount of lacing and retention. Some thin and quick falling alcoholic legs.

S - Fresh raspberry preserves and booze. In the background is some light rye spice, vanilla, and toffee rich malts. It comes off very alcohol strong and raspberry heavy, but it really is a fantastic aroma.

T - Much different than the nose. Starts off with bright raspberry notes, then comes a very mellow and subdued toffee and butterscotch malty flavor that I associate with scotch ales and wee-heavy's. A touch of vanilla oak tannins, but the whiskey seems present mostly in a very noticeable warmth and not in the rye spice I was hoping for.

M - Light to medium bodied and somewhat creamy. Tons of carbonation, like far too much.

O - The aroma is excellent, but the taste is just average. I did enjoy it very much, and it actually succeeded in being a rather unique brew. But is it worth $35? Probably not, but it was worth the experience. Perhaps some aging will mellow out the booze a bit, (1,222 characters)

A - Pours a dark brown with a fizzy tan head that fades quickly.

S - Sweet candy, cherry and raspberry.

T - Candy cherry, booze and raspberry. Fake-ish, but welcoming.

D - Good carbonation with a heavy body.

O - Candy cherry and raspberry dominates, not overly sweet, almost artifical tasting, but still enjoyable. (374 characters)
