Bottle drank side by side with Cognac Imperial Sweet Stout from CCB in a head to head smackdown. Big thanks to Kyle for a beer that eluded me for quite some time.

Dark though certainly lighter in color than the ISS. Some brown highlights along the edges and some whisps along the surface. While not as menacing looking as its counterpart, it looks more appealing in the glass to my eye.

Much more roast on the nose with a hint of rubber glove or solvent that's strangely not unappealing. Barrel lays a light blanket atop.

As in the nose, the taste displays a good deal of roast and medium bodied coffee. It's lighter and more crisp overall and the Cognac barrel adds as very pleasant element to a base beer which I don't enjoy all that much.

The Cognac Moloko is a bit more accessible and less fatiguing on the palate than the ISS and while I don't think it displays nearly as much complexity as the ISS either, I found myself reaching for it more frequently. I'm not sure that makes it a better or worse beer, but it's certainly an improvement on the base and a great experience to have drank these beers side by side.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Bottle # 219 of 564.

Appearance - Black. Small khaki head. Medium collar.

Smell - Super strong cognac. Fruity and boozy. Kinda smells like a brandy, which makes sense.

Taste - Chocolate behind a hefty fruity character. Oak. Vanilla. Sweet brandy flavor. I get none of the lactose.

Mouthfeel - Medium body, not too boozy. Strong barrel though.

Overall - I'm glad I can't taste the lactose. Really intense barrel.

Big thanks goes out to cmrillo for sharing this one during the One Year Anniversary of My Wreck Tasting! Bottle #524 of 564! Served from bottle into a Crooked Stave ‘Crooked Line’ tulip. Poured pitch black with a half finger tan head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, apple, sweet alcohol, wood, fruit, and spice. The flavor was of sweet malt, wood, sweet alcohol, fruit, spice, and apple. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a fairly good brew. The barrel definitely added a very nice level of complexity to this one. However, it did cover up a lot of the base brew if I am honest. This hurt its score slightly if I’m honest, but this was still a solid brew. Definitely worth your time if you get the chance to try it.

Bottle shared by Rillo at the Charlotte Tasting 2012. Thanks Rillo!

Cognac Kilometer looks like the regular, thick and viscous dark chocolate brown with a one finger dark beige head. The nose definitely has plenty of Cognac character. It is vinous and has plenty of grape character yet still has plenty of the roasted malt and chocolate that I love in the regular Moloko. There are traces of Cognac all over this beer. As always Moloko does well in a barrel. The Cognac is different but I do prefer the Bourbon barrel version. Good beer though.
