a: cloudy, golden copper. frothy white head

s: citrusy hops (orange/grapefruit/pineapple). Detecting some of the rye spiciness too.

t: Taste follows the nose but the rye seems to more pronounced. Initial burst of citrusy hops. Spicy rye really picks up mid taste and stays through the end.

m: medium body. Clean and crisp

o: This is ok but I much prefer Rye'd da Lightning. The rye was better nuanced in the latter. Good to try once but I will not seek out again.

Pour cloudy yellow orange with a small puffed up white head. Slight lacing down the glass.

Aroma is sharp rye notes, citrus and pine. A bit of grapefruit zest and bread in the background.

Big grapefruit rind and other citrus flavor up front. A little earthy and bready before finishing with a rye-resin 1-2 punch.

Medium body and carbonation. Finishes pretty bitter.

Not too bad, but the flavors were a bit muddled. I enjoyed Rye da Lightning more. The extra hops seemed to overwhelm the rye to provide more flavor harshness and less of the wonderful citrus explosion with a hint of rye of its little brother.

From trade. Pours cloudy yellowish orange with a big fluffy white head. Stuffed up right now, but getting some orange zest, lemon, and grapefruit. Not a whole lot of smell here. Big up front bitter, some citrus. Not a lot going on, and I don’t pick up much rye in aroma or taste. Medium mouthfeel with medium high carbonation. Honestly this is pretty bland. Not a bad beer, but expected more from FFF. This seems to have a similar profile to Panzer Wolf, which I also found to be bland. Just give me the Dreadnaught

The appearance is above average for the style: fine lacing, bright white head and red amber color which is transparent. There is some sediment at the bottom of the bottle that produces fish food in the glass.

The nose is excellent. There is predominantly tropical and citrus aromas from the hops and spicy malt from the rye. As the brew warms, the nose is dominated by the malt (both spicy and sweet) and alcohol.

The taste is rather average for a rye pale ale. I detect spicy malt and some bittering hops, but the alcohol bite cuts through. The alcohol disrupts the nice balance between the malt backbone and hops.

The feel is medium and provides some oily notes.

I am a big fan of Rye'd da Lightning, so I was excited to try this double version. If this brew can be made such that the alcohol does not push its way through the taste, then I'd give it a higher overall score. I think fans of Lightening should give this a try. However, this won't be a repeat buy for me.
