Review taken early late Feb, 2014.
22 oz(1 pint, 6 oz) brown bomber FFF shaped bottle with black and red artwork upon the label. I'm usually a big fan of FFF labels, but this one is just a bit weird and didn't quite do it for me like some other their other labels. But what's inside is what counts. Poured into a nonic pint glass.
A - deep black color with a hint of ruby red rounding the bottom corners when held to the light. Massive brown colored head on the pour settles to a creamy ring of lace leaving some nice stick.
S - dark roasted malt, oats, and bittersweet chocolate make up the aroma. Hints of cocoa, chocolate milk, candied sugar and roasted grain as this warms.
T - this is a somewhat sweet oatmeal stout. It seriously pushes toward the Moloko ball park in flavor. Big splash of milk chocolate and lactose like sugars or something acting like lactose sugars anyway. Oats are present but fade to a more toasted grain with each passing minute this sits. A bit of smoke and hop spice allow for a nice balanced flavor with the dark malts flowing along nicely. Surprising hint of alcohol Booz in the finish.
M - nice medium body and pretty good texture. Thickness isn't out of this world but it works with its size. Creamy feel and drinks very well.
O - okay I'm not totally satisfied with Backmasking. Sure, I think FFF make world class stuff, but come on.. You make me look at some ignorant Satanic label that I just don't understand, charge me 12.99 and give me a 5.9% oatmeal stout with a better ale in Rich Life coming the same day for the same price. Kicking myself I didn't buy a 3rd Rich life and left this sitting. Sure, its a good oatmeal stout, but I just don't get the release.. Not alongside something like Live a rich life. But hey, what do I know? If you are looking for a FFF oatmeal stout then grab it. It's a good stout, I just didn't find it great.

On-tap at FFF
A - Dark chocolate brown body with a nice chocolate one finger head
S - Milk chocolate, roasted malt, and hopped up with pine
T - Reminds me of a sweeter, thicker alpha klaus. Milk chocolate, roasted malt, slighty smokey and has a slight bitter pine hops. Finish is dark chocolate with light pine that lingers on.
MF - Light yet creamy body that you'd expect from an oatmeal stout
O - Imagine a sweeter oatmeal stout version of alpha klaus and you have backmasking. It has the chocolate and roasted malt that you'd expect from an oatmeal stout while also having a good hop presence that you'd expect from FFF

22oz bottle dated 3/27/14 poured into tulip glass
A - Dark black as if trapping all light. A tall tan head slowly gives way to a light layer with lacing on the glass.
S - Malty! Nice rosted malts and a bit of boozieness. Coffee
T - Slight coffee notes. Sweet and malty with maybe a little hop charactaristcs on the end
M - This is more of an American oatmel stout... thinner and less smooth than it's English brother. The oats don't set it up for the full body you typically expect.
O - Pretty good American version of the Oatmeal Stout. I prefer the English version with a fuller body and silkier mouth feel.
