Picked up a 22 oz bomber in a trade with DrewskiWhit. Poured into a WootStout branded short tulip glass. Bottled on date was illegible.

Appearance is black as night with a decent tan head that dissipates somewhat quickly, decent lacing but nothing amazing. Smell is sweet molasses, dark chocolate with a light hop aroma and toasted notes coming through as it warms. Flavor follows suit with the nose - the hop flavor lingering throughout the roasted malt and sweetness (maybe sweetened with lactose) which is quite nice - I didn't expect such a hoppy oatmeal stout and was pleasantly surprised. The mouthfeel is silky smooth like a proper oatmeal stout, light bitterness from the hop lingers in this medium-bodied ale with mellow carbonation. Overall phenomenal take on an old classic style. Leave it to Three Floyds to take a classic style of old and spin it with a modern twist - nice work fellas!

Chose this over black-heart because of the crazy awesome label art. I love 3-F's creative designs.

A - Deep dark brown/black color. Pours thick with khaki colored creamy head with good lacing.

S - Lots of hops at the beginning which I wasn't expecting but came out pretty good. After warming the malt and roasted tones came out along and then the sweet grainy smell that goes with an oatmeal stout.

T - Tons flavor having a robust character with a malty, roasty, chocolaty, and some like toffee/caramel taste along with some hops on the back end. There is some bitterness from the roasted malt and hops but is pretty balanced with the sweetness.

M - Full mouth-feel with moderate to low carbonation. Silky feel and a nice bitterness that makes it a great beer for occasional drinking.

Overall, this oatmeal stout is different than your standard "Samuel Smith" and it is pretty delicious. It isn't as heavy as a RIS and it is a tasty brew. It has everything for the dark beer drinker who likes a little american hops in there. It's also a nice change of pace if you are used to drinking dry stouts like Guinness. I would strongly recommend this to anyone that likes darker beer.

Pours an opaque onyx, with a gray-brown head.

Aroma is roasty and chocolatey with oats and coffee adding intrigue.

Flavor is a mixed bag of coffee and chocolate, with marshmallows hitting mid palate. The finish is fairly acrid/tart and lightly bitter.

Body is moderate, with lower carbonation and noted alcohol warmth.

The sour/acrid note is offputting, and it's a bit hot, but nice malt character.
