A: Very dark black/brown, mostly opaque with a little color around the edges. Beige head sits around for a few moments moving on.
S: Pine, grapefruit and lemon peel combine with a roasty coffee and milk chocolate note.
T: Pretty intense bitterness from the hops in this beer, and the hops dominate the taste. Sweet maltiness appears briefly at times but is rapidly overtaken by the resinous qualities. Bitterness follows nicely on the swallow, and the aftertaste reminds me of having a stalk of summer grass in your mouth. You know the alcohol is there but it doesn't interfere with anything.
M: Medium bodied, good carbonation. All that bitterness leaves a nice tingle on the tongue if you drink it quickly. A little thin for a stout, perhaps.
O: Drinks really easily, surprised how much I enjoyed this beer. Definitely strikes me as a Black IPA right now though, so if that's your thing it is certainly worth seeking out fresh.

Spent one year in the cellar bough fresh from the brewery
Pours pitch black in color and pretty viscous. A big finger and a half foamy light tan head retains nicely.
Smell is good. Lots of roasted barley maybe some rye are forward in the nose and fade to a toffee aroma. an earthy hop aroma finishes.
Taste follows the nose with big roasted barley and rye flavors upfront. Malt is decently balanced with a mild bite, hints of tobacco and saddle leather, moderate earthy hop flavor and mild bitterness.
Mouthfeel is moderately thick with a little bit of stickiness and some oily hoppy resin.
Had I realized how hoppy this was I would have drank it fresh. Not a great stout but I'll give it the benifit of the doubt considering it's age.
