Style | ABV
American Pale Wheat Ale |  5.60% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
An American Wheat Ale, Gumballhead is named in honor of the underground comic book cat created by Rob Syers. Initially a seasonal summer beer, now brewed year round due to demand. This beer helped redefine American Wheat Beers. Brewed with Amarillo Hops and a generous portion of American red wheat, Gumballhead has a complex hop aroma with notes of grapefruit, lemon zest, marmalade and peach. These flavors combined with low bitterness make Gumballhead a refreshing American Wheat Beer that doesn’t suck.

1 pint 6 oz bottle

eyes:
pours a straw to yellow, pretty average looking, not much head, nothing too exciting looking at it

nose:
grapefruit ginger ale with a citrus twinge more towards the tart variety.. lemon ices hops mmmm almost smells like a sparkling soft drink... drool...

taste:
like a light american pale ale with an exceptional tart finish with a gentle hop bite. it is reminiscent of the Alpha King but not nearly as overpowering.. dare I say I prefer this ? damn, I still cant get over the gorgeous smell of this one...
it's light with just enough body to carry it, the carbonation is perfectly balanced to enjoy the bubbles and the flavor without detracting from either, each sip ends with a sprinkle of lemony flavor.

verdict:
I usuaully shy away from wheat beers (I just personally dont like them too much) but damn me in the pants if I am not buying this stuff this summer. Light enough to pass off on novices to lure them to the dark side but yet definitely interesting enough to keep the beer snob sated. this is one damn fine brew.

A: Only slightly hazy orange-gold body, tufts of bubbles, a good head that leaves a thin coating on the surface, a few legs of sticky lace.

S: Mostly strikingly clean hops, most citrus fruits. Faint background of wheat. Really good, but too hop-centric for the named style.

T: Again, too hoppy for the style, but it's too good for me to knock it much. Clean, clean hops showcasing a variety of citruses with minimal bitterness playing off a slightly sweet wheat base. Finish could be longer.

M: Supremely crisp. Fluid. Lively. Refreshing. This is fantastic.

O: A simple concept wonderfully executed. Exactly matches my preferences for low bitterness, restrained hopping, and mild wheat sweetness. It's between a wheat and an IPA, I guess they can't appease both camps ('this IPA is weak!' 'this wheat has too much hops!'). All said and done, a great, easily repeatable beer.
