American Pale Wheat Ale |  5.60% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
An American Wheat Ale, Gumballhead is named in honor of the underground comic book cat created by Rob Syers. Initially a seasonal summer beer, now brewed year round due to demand. This beer helped redefine American Wheat Beers. Brewed with Amarillo Hops and a generous portion of American red wheat, Gumballhead has a complex hop aroma with notes of grapefruit, lemon zest, marmalade and peach. These flavors combined with low bitterness make Gumballhead a refreshing American Wheat Beer that doesn’t suck.

2012 12oz bottle

Thanks to a great trader, bauermj, for an extra.

A: gorgeous golden body, almost like a big ipa but without any typical caramel character. Very light white half-finger head which disappears with almost no lacing.

S and T: this is an ideal session beer, the complexities are not overstated but every sip leaves you with a different impression. Really cool application of amarillo hops. Slight bitterness but big taste with citrussy notes that come from elsewhere. The hops must've been FWH, because they are all taste and tiny aroma. Not too dry and not a sweet fluffy wheat beer.

M: perfect, more carbonation appears from each sip than the original pour.

O: i want more of this and would pay twice the listed price for a sixer.

A - Pours a beautiful golden with slight orange tinge. Thin soda like head with very minimal lacing.

S - Smells like bright, but not overpowering hops. Light pine, sweet grass, red wheat.

T - Taste is incredible. Light, sweet, perfect balance of hops and wheat while still boasting a full flavor.

M - Crisp, bubbly and refreshing. Very drinkable.

O - This is an outstanding beer and easily one of the best wheats i've ever had. Most people shy away from wheat beers because of the blue moon's and hoegaardens, which in my opinion give wheats a bad name. This is a perfect example of what the style is capable of. A go to in warm summer days or when you crave something light but packed with flavor. Very surprised at the somewhat average/low rating by the bros.

Date stamped 03/28/14; I am ashamed to say I've had this beer once and it was about 6 years ago and wasn't crazy over it - thought it was somewhat over-rated
L - frothy off white head caps a golden colored ale, good head retention with some lacing left on the glass
S - fresh citric hop aroma, faint biscuit and wheat
T - amarillo hops shine with juicy lemon, orange, and grapefruit; wheat, lemongrass, yeast are also present
F - lighter body, refreshing, finishes dry with some lingering lemony bitterness
O - solid hoppy wheat beer. I see the catch and draw many have toward this beer. I'll buy it more often, but it's not a regular pick-up for me.
