12oz bottle purchased from the brewery in Munster, IN.
Pours a slightly hazed golden hue with one finger of billowy white head and a few spots of lacing on the pint glass.
Smell is red grapefruit, pineapple, citrusy and resiny hops, pine sap, nectarine, passion fruit, doughy malts, yeast esters, navel orange, and faint hints of bubblegum.
Taste is grainy pale malts, red grapefruit, juicy, citric and oily hops, mild grassiness, resinous and lemony bitterness with tangerine, orange peel, and white bread dough on the cough. Delectable!
Mouthfeel is crisp, medium bodied, firm spiciness mid-palate, snappy hop bite gives way to a balanced bitterness and bone dry finish. Rather than dominating the flavour, the wheat malt adds body and dryness to this brew.
Overall, Gumballhead is the best session-strength Pale Wheat Ale that I've sampled. Although the stronger Little Sumpin' Sumpin' (7.5% ABV) is more flavourful, robust, and aromatic, this is the exemplar low alcohol APWA. A truly remarkable quaffer that I could drink for days on end. Superb.
