Gumballhead goes into my chalice (I felt like drinking a wheat from a chalice, alright?) real easy. This is a pale, clear, straw colored beer with a short timid white cap. Low head retention. Thin looking.
Alright, I can't be the only one smelling passion fruit here... such a sweet, floral fruity nose... quite remarkable, really. No other beer I can recall smells like this one... the wheat is there, and a hint of citrus-lemon, and grapefruit hops, but mostly what shines is this odd tropical fruit smell that 's more than a little perfume-y... breezy and tantalizing. Yummah.
The flavor is real sweet for a wheat... neat... (I debated here with rhyming for the remainder of the review, but decided to spare us both.) The carbonation explodes in my mouth, yielding a creamy, zesty mouth of light beer. Sugary lemon and vague fruit (guava?), floral bittering hops, and a simple, sweet-bitter, grassy, mildly yeasty finish... airy and fluffy, sunshine and sparrows and beautiful freckled blondes nibbling on meringue pie... or perhaps I digress. Rather darn exceptional in any event.
Gumballhead is quite drinkable. The sweetness might wear on you after three... or maybe four. Unique, crisp, fruity and light. Wish I had it ready at hand all the time. Highly recommended.
Big thanks to Faustgeist for hauling this back from Cali.
