American Pale Wheat Ale |  5.60% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
An American Wheat Ale, Gumballhead is named in honor of the underground comic book cat created by Rob Syers. Initially a seasonal summer beer, now brewed year round due to demand. This beer helped redefine American Wheat Beers. Brewed with Amarillo Hops and a generous portion of American red wheat, Gumballhead has a complex hop aroma with notes of grapefruit, lemon zest, marmalade and peach. These flavors combined with low bitterness make Gumballhead a refreshing American Wheat Beer that doesn’t suck.

Appearance. Pours a lightly hazy, rich yellow-gold with half a finger of white head.

Smell. Nice toasted wheat and fruity hops with some citrus rinds.

Taste. Toasty wheat again and some great citrusy hops in a great ballance. Just a bit of tropical fruits here and there as well. Fairly light and very refreshing flavours going on here.

Mouthfeel. Lighter body with medium+ carbonation.

Overall. Very nice and pretty unique. Loved it.

Thanks yeahnatenelson.

The beer was ever so slightly hazy and golden yellow with a moderate amount of white foam.

Citrusy hops have a prominent role in aroma and flavor, but hop bitterness comes across as nicely balanced. My expectations were that this might be more of a kick in the teeth. Malt is clean and mostly dry, with a kiss of residual sweetness.

This beer deserves the praise that it gets for being a moderate strength, hop-focused American wheat. With so many boozy hop bombs on the market, I'm glad this one is tempered with moderation.

Served on tap in a plain o' pint glass.

This beer pours a hazy yellow and a nice white head, typical wheat beer. This beer has an amazing aroma, its very citrus dominant as well as some skunky hops, the aroma of the hops is lightly backed up by a wheat caramel smell. This is an easy drinker for sure. This beer has a light character and a very pleasant hop presence but its far from strong. Im the kind of person that can take down a dreadnought bomber with ease so this beer is rather lackluster in taste and feel. Having said that, it is a grade A example of what this beer is trying to be.
