God help me, I've reached a point where 8.x% DIPAs no longer excite me, even if they contain enough alpha acid to strip away herpes rashes. We are all junkies. Or worse. We're like a bunch of zit-faces at one of those sci-fi conventions (the kind where you can meet real-life Yodas). We consume and consume and consume, consume so much we can't separate our identities from our consumption, become so monstrously and emotionally involved in the scene that constitutes our selves that we will never be happy, every little thing our overlords do is met with contempt and complaint. But we keep consuming. We have to. We don't know how to exist if we're not consuming.

So then there's this. It's good. But so are the twenty five thousand other beers that are just like it that have come out in the last two years. The bottle art is pretty shitty, so there's not even that. But the once-outrageous price of ten bucks a bomber is now kinda reasonable, so there's that.

Bright orange. Smells like sugary, thick malt (almost like extract syrup, minus any offputting medicinal nodes), caramel, orange, and grapefruit. Tastes exactly like the aforementioned smells, only the thickness becomes a wee bit offputting as it hits the back of your throat.

Bottled on 10-30-14

A - Cloudy Amber body with clean white ~2" head. Lacing holds well throughout tasting.

S - Smell was a little less pungent than most 3F's DIPAs. Citrus, malt, and hops seemed well balanced.

T/M - Malt, sweet burnt sugars, citrus (orange more than pineapple/lemon), pine/grass. Good creamy/chewy mouth-feel. Low ABV makes for a very clean and drinkable beer.

O - Sweet malt forward taste with nice citrus and pine finish. Good DIPA with a little more malt and pine than other offerings. Not my favorite 3F DIPA, but they have so many good ones to choose from. Still quite tasty and worth checking out. Prost!

I hope to God this label is being approved, the Zombie Crusaders with mullets adorn the beer with some serious death metal artwork with the heading War Mullet. Welcome to Three Floyd's Zombie Apocalypse beer, pours a golden orange into my Tripel Karmeliet chalice glass slightly hazed with massive amounts of yeast in the bottom of the bottle still hanging out. Big biscuit textured head floating above the rim of the glass, leaves chunky sporadic lacing layered all day. Aroma is citrus bomb all day, it's like the sweet juice of freshly squeezed oranges minus bitter pith. Very aromatic orange citrus maybe a bit of peel spraying my way, but damn it smells fresh. Flavors keeps it in check with big citrus layers of hops and a spicy element that I've never met in an IPA, I can't put my finger on it but dare I say ginger or something akin to that root spice. More spicy character that's hard to put my finger on with each sip, yet those hops have an irresistible flavor profile, maybe a bit more spiciness from green onions or some other Summit hop addition, either way it's there almost vegetal with the clash of citrus hops might rub some folks the wrong way, alcohol is way too well hidden. Big beer in all it's glory drinking like your favorite flavorful standard IPA. Smoking the L'atelier Surrogates Tramp Stamp from Pete Johnson and his brother with this one, it's a fantastic combination sure to please any hop head and cigar lover. I'm a fan of this beer big hop character keeps rolling with every sip, it's just that good...remember some beers are meant for enjoyment by themselves others to share with friends, this one you should drink every last drop because there's no telling the next time you will be able to grab another bomber of this stuff. I got it in Newark, OH at Beverage Source a great little store that me and WVsabbath had to drive a couple hours to, well worth the stop excellent selection with every bottled tagged with the price. They also had a small bar side where rare taps where meant to be enjoyed. Carbonation and mouthfeel are perfect bready layered notes of hops with each sip, it's resinous and oily just like any good DIPA should be these are some gifted brewers overall please seek this one out it's that good.

On-tap at FFF

A - Golden orange with a clear body and a white head

S - Rye spiciness up front with a citrus (think orange) in the back 4

T - Rye spiciness up front and then tangerine and orange citrus before a light pine comes near the back end that give the beer some bitterness 4?

M - Medium body with a light syrupiness and thick hop resin that lingers on the tongue

O - A solid rye IPA that comes across as a lighter Rye Da tiger with some good rye spice balanced against a hop bitterness

another high-class DIPA from 3 Floyds...fresh-squeezed citrus, lemon rind, biscuit malt. The ABV is dialed back a few % from the typical 3 floyds DIPA and it shows with a lighter, easier drinking body. Soapy hop notes with a punchy finish.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Hazy bright orange. Good lacing. Nice surface wisps.

Smell - Bright citrus. Orange hops. I smell just the faintest amount of sweetness.

Taste - Pithy orange hop. Grapefruit builds. Slightly sweet. Dries out and gets bitter very quickly.

Mouthfeel - A little soapy from the pith and bitterness. Very dry.

Overall - Very enjoyable if a little rough.

Starts out nice with a vibrant orange color, slightly hazy, and a soft, persistent white head.

Smells of toast, orange, grapefruit, and faint pineapple.

Hop forward flavor, mostly citrus. Distant floral notes, big cracker malt balance. There's a phenolic band-aid taste I was not expecting.

Mouthfeel is full, a tad bit soapy. Good carbonation.

Good, typical hop forward profile from three floyds, but definitely not one of their best offerings.

A very soft orange and somewhat cloudy in appearance.

Smells like fruit punch.

Tropical fruits dominate the overall taste of this brew with hints of a very pleasant cotton candy flavor.

A mouthful of this stuff is like a carnival in the tropics.

Overall this is a very pleasant beer, with very original qualities for an IPA. I would most definitely hunt this down again.

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Pale amber body, and slightly clear nearly crystal, but with some light fine carbonation, and a nice big lemon hue to it. Head is off white, thick and tall at four fingers easily but not out of control. Big retention and thick clumping and lots of staying power. Real good looking brew.

A fantastic hop aroma hits the nose wonderfully. Lots of juiced fruits and herbs coming off this. Hints a sort of wood and cedary herbal fruit tropical note, nicely set with a very mild sweetness that almost comes off like powdered sugar. Almost hits a toasty malt note somewhere behind as well, but as expected a big hop forward note, and a great one. Excellent hop bouquet.

Palate comes just wonderfully. Juiced front and neutral controlled lime bitterness, then opens up with a great spicy note slowly with big aromatic hints of wood and juice. Leafy green and black like tea herbs seem to come off with a juiced tropical subtle note or is that tangerine?, and a hint of mild caramel. Big oily and controlling finish, with a huge mint mouthwash hop breath left over. Juiced mouthfeel, even just a light touch of peppery like carbonation that just makes everything pop on the palate. Hints of light caramel manage to come out even as well.

Wonderfully unique and different hop angled brew that is well in control, with a diverse range of flavors that joyfully bounce around. Really love this beer and it's hop angle.

Reviewing the War Mullet from Three Floyds Brewing Company out of Munster, Indiana.

Score: 96

Tap pour from the source, served in a footed beer glass and enjoyed on 04/12/14. Review is from iPhone notes.

Appearance: Pours a translucent tangerine yellow color with a thin layer of white head that settles to a foggy cap. Crazy lacing and retention. 5/5

Smell: The aroma is an orange/tangerine/grapefruit-forward citrus explosion, with a resiny fruity hop character and touch of earthiness. Absolutely awesome. 4.5/5

Taste: Juicy and bitter fruit and citrus flavors -- grapefruit and orange, with an earthy bitterness. Lingering earthy hop and orange rind flavors. Not an overly intense nor scorchingly bitter palate wrecker. Starts off with a nicely sharp bitterness that quickly mellows, but lingers. Has a nice underlying sweetness with a little fruity mustiness. 4.5/5

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, low carbonation. Bitter with an underlying sweet juicy maltiness with lingering fruit character. Oily on the tongue. 4.5/5

Overall: Another home run hoppy beer from one of the midwest masters of hops. Seek this one out with confidence.

Cost: $5 for a 10 oz pour.

1 PINT 6 FL OZ bottle
Served in tulip glass

A - This beer is hazy amber with golden highlights. It is topped with a thick mountain of off-white head.

S - The smell is loaded with grapefruit.

T - The taste is weird at first. I get a floral and malty taste. After a few sips the grapefruit comes into play.

M - Moderate with biting carbonation.

O - The taste does not match the aroma. As I mentioned, the taste is weird with floral and a sweet taste. That being said, I liked it. It is no Brew Doo, but it is good.

A-Cloudy orange, some carbonation, one finger head that tries to leave some lacing.

S-Oranges, other tropical fruits and a good deal of resinous pine.

T-The tropical notes are there but just not as prevalent as in the nose. Once again the pine is more in the forefront. Some bitterness as well.

M-Medium bodied, crisp, some carbonation.

O-A good DIPA, however compared to other FFF there are much better options.

(I think I reviewed this beer 2 weeks ago and forgot to upload this. Oh well, I guess it didn't make much of an impression on me). Poured from a bottle into a Goose Island tulip. The pour is a hazy apricot color and sports a nice tight white head which has good retention. The nose is not as punchy as I anticipated, but still has some fresh citrus-like notes of lemon, peaches, and sweet oranges.

Medium body with a wonderful creamy feel and a lot of flavor, but unfortunately the flavor does not agree with me. An ample malt bill really sweetens things up and, mixed with the resin and hemp-like hops, gives a strong marmalade-like character to the beer. I don't think the sweetness goes all that well with the hop character and an unpleasant medicinal note tends to linger on the finish. The flavor improves a bit for me as the beer comes closer to room temperature.

Definitely not my favorite IIPA from this brewer and not one I'd seek out or buy again. I'd rather have more Dreadnaught. Perhaps some other BAs will really like this one, but I'm just not crazy about it. At least the artwork on the bottle is super-cool!

War Mullet

Huge citrus nose.
Slightly hazy orange body. Big fluffy head. Great retention and some good lacing.

Big citrus and orange on the taste. Not much malt to speak of. There enough to bala...ya who am I kidding, it's just full on hops. Very smooth bitterness and it lingers on. No sign of alcohol.
Tasty beer for sure.

Amazing. Pours a cloudy Amber with a finger of head in a snifter. Head quickly dissipated. The nose is of an orange peel. I can't place the hops in the flavor but just know it's way good. Mouthfeel is lighter/thinner than expected, perhaps because it's 8%. This is a great beer that I wish I regular access to

poured 22oz bottle into Teku. This was bottled 2-3 weeks ago, so it is fresh.

A - All of FFF IIPAs look perfect. Always a beautiful golden, sun-kissed orange color and a 2 finger white head. Good retention and tons of spiderweb lacing.

S - Big Tropical and sweet citrus of pineapple, mango, kiwi, tangerine, and grapefruit. Some honey for sweetness and a bit floral. I pick up traces of pine.

T - As I would expect it follows the nose. I love this flavor! Notes of tropical pineapple, mango, kiwi that blend with sweet tangerine and grapefruit. There is a light sweet malt and honey flavor and it finishes with a light pine bitter.

M - Medium bodied and full carbonation for the style. A nice sticky and dry mouthfeel.

O - Just another World Class IIPA from FFF. I'm not sure how much different this is from Apocalypse cow, but it is very good and I really enjoyed it.
