This double IPA will make you want to grow a mullet (if you don’t already have one) and go to war (if your’re not already).

Three Floyds War Mullet Double India Pale Ale.
8.1 % ABV. 80 IBU.
Three Floyds Brewing, Munster, IN.

Mostly clear, dark amber/near golden color, slim white head.

In the nose: Big, citrus hop explosion in the nose, lovely stuff.

In the mouth: Powerful hop attack on the palate. Wonderfully bitter, and just a little juicy. Alcohol peeks out early, shows it's claws with each new juicy, dank sip. Clean, but sharp and bitter. Big malt, too, ripping with flavor.

Good double IPA, and I can dig it. Not about to knock over Dreadnaught, but an able replacement.

Thanks to falloutsnow
Pours a smaller frothy head with med retention, touch of lacing, very hazy dark-burnt-orange color

Nose is fairly sweet, candy malts, toffee, a bit of fruit syrup, lots of citrus, orange marmalade, some candied dried tropical fruit, sweetened pineapple, pithy, a little vanilla orange-cake icing

Taste more sweet malts out front, lots of candy-like sweet flavors, general rich malts with a little alcohol flavor, and some toasty flavors with touch of caramel and toffee, hops bring more citrus and tropical, candied dried pineapple and mango, sweet orange juice, a bit of bitterness with some grapefruit pith, touch of spicy hops late as bitterness ramps quite a bit to a med-higher citrus rind bitterness, sweet orange zest, and flash of perfumey alcohol late

Mouth is med to fuller bod, a bit of alcohol warmth, med-higher frothy carb

Overall a pretty good DIPA, somewhere between D-NEIPA and D-West Coast style, and enjoyable as usual from 3Floyds

Look: Yellow-orange, hazy, fluffy off-white head.
Smell: Orange peel and a little floral.
Taste: Orange, pineapple, malt. Resin and earth too. Drying bitterness immediately after sweet oranges and flowers.
Feel: Drying with medium body.
Overall: thoroughly enjoyed. The dry bitterness makes me want to take another sip and the sweet orange, flowers and pineapple make that sip enjoyable.

Over two months old, so I have no idea how hoppy this is supposed to be, but it’s got a hell of a malt presence. Big, bad, bold, and boozy. It’s a butt kicker of a beer. Good IPA to have with a cigar.

War Mullet brewed by 3 Floyds Brewing Co., With an ABV of 8.10% This Imperial IPA pours out of a 12oz glass bottle into a pint beer glass. The color is a deep Golden amber color with a nice white head. There is also a nice amount of lacing to this brew, it stick to the side of the glass well. The smell is Rich with citrus notes, an hop bitterness. There is also a nice amount of earthy grains and malts in the smell as well. So far War Mullet is a nice inviting brew. Now for the taste, it is Bold with flavors. Lots of citrus notes with rich hop bitterness at first. Then the earthy notes in the grains and malts tone it down. There is a lot going on in this brew. The body of War Mullet is a solid medium. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a super nice balance to it. I can't get over how smooth this brew goes down. It is really hard to pick up on the 8.10% ABV in this brew, it is just that smooth. This brew would go nice with dinner or some kind of a meal. The mouth feel is Bold, Rich, Hoppy, Clean, Smooth and Refreshing. Overall I am going to give War Mullet a 4.50 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again givin the opportunity too. 3 Floyds Brewing Co. Did a super nice job with this imperial IPA.

Very strong imperial IPA from the great 3 Floyds. 6/29/20 date printed on bottle. Pours a darker murky yellow-orange color with some fluffy white head and small rings of lingering lacing. Aromas of crisp grapefruit, orange, lemon, malt, vanilla, bread and weaker herbal hops. Taste follows the nose, great bitter hoppy bite at the finish, crisp, bracing, almost West Coast style. Smooth sticky mouthfeel, coated the palate, good carbonation. Very enjoyable!

12oz bottled 06-29-20 (18 days ago) poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass at fridge temp, no ABV listed on label. The beer pours slightly hazy orange amber in color with light khaki head. The head recedes slowly to a half inch cap and leaves plenty of lacing. The aroma is caramel, pine & citrus rind. The taste is semisweet caramel & grapefruit with some pine, lemon & earth popping up in between. Heavily bitter, but not tongue buckling. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Lots of sticky hop oil and a bit of residual sweetness, but well proportioned for the style. Overall, very good. I come to it time and time again, but this is what I like. Caramel malt, bitterness & C hops.

Fresh bottle from brewery courtesy of JohnnyHops.
Look: deep amber, cloudy, fluffy off-white head.
Smell: Orange peel, floral.
Taste: Orange, vanilla, sweet malt. Grassy piney resiny soil bitterness.
Feel: Perfectly medium.
Overall: even though 3 Floyd’s tends to go heavy on the malt, I enjoy the way they do it which seems to bring a balanced affect.

Bottle pour into 16oz bar tumbler. Orangy amber with lots of white froth. Floral nose finishes with citra, and huge hoppy bitter. Crisp. Cant get enough of this and Zombie Dust. Winners both.
