The lady and I cut our rollercoastering day at six flags short to get some beer and grub at 3floyds (my first time when it wasn't DLD). When we pulled up there were cars parked on the street and people waiting outside the door, but after getting our name on the list we waited a mear 10 minutes for prime spots at the bar.

We both started the night off with a couple of Zombie Dusts's, fresh as you can get, and ordered our food. I ordered the briscuit tacos and she the alpha king dog. As we waited for our food to arrive we admired the decore of retired 3F beers on the beam above us, metal band merch and horror movie toys (just like my bedroom in high school!)

The food arrived (looking amazing) and of course we needed some more beverages, (Tiberian Inquisitor and Evil Power), The smokey meaty briscuit tacos where phenomenal. After we had a couple more beers we took a mosey on over to the bottle shop to get some booty for home. The ONLY reason... I am putting 4.75 instead of 5 for selection was because I wasn't able to get any ZD from the bottle shop... but there's always next time! Cheers and go to 3Floyds

We arrived about 30 minutes before the brewpub opened to find a large line snaking into the parking lot from the main entrance. This was no special event day, but apparently the place is always packed. Luckily it was a balmy 50 degrees and sunny in small-town Indiana that day, but I wouldn't brave the elements in the middle of winter for it! Squatting beneath the bulbous Munster water tower, the brewery building is essentially a large warehouse with an attached small brewpub. There is a pub entrance and a second, smaller, door for walk in bottle sales. A few minutes before official opening, an employee, using his best carnival barker's voice, explained the rules to those of us in line. He explained the free tour times and allowed us to sign up for them. Interestingly once in the brewpub, if your tour time comes up, they will save your seat for you until you return. A nice perk since tables are hard to come by. I do have to say, that the staff was great and despite being busy they really knew how to deal with crowds.

They offer samplers of their four "regular" beers: Dreadnaught IPA, Alpha King Pale, Mild and Robert The Bruce. All are good beers but RTB is far and away the best--a wonderfully malty and complex Scottish ale. They had an extensive list of other beers, and offered most in full or half pints, though some were only served in 8 oz snifters (mostly double IPAs.) I enjoyed the War Mullet and Permanent Funeral (both DIPAs) very much. Bryan and I were very surprised that in addition to over-the-top hoppy, the brewery had several very restrained examples of classic Continental beer styles like and Oktoberfest (Munsterfest) and Schwarzbier (Das Kleine Schwarz Einhorn). Several of the beers on tap were collaborations with Metal groups, and similarly themed loud Metal music pervaded the pub.

We hit the free tour after our drinking was done. You get what you pay for. The entire tour took place in about 15 feet of warehouse space. Our tour guide was good and knew his stuff, but this was a very fast tour that barely scratched the surface of such an infamous brewery. I did like the artwork on the walls, including some old D&D art from the Dungeon Master's Guide of my youth. Looking at the bourbon barrels filled with future incarnations of rare Three Floyds beer was intriguing.

Addendum: I visited again recently and had a chance to order more food. Holy cow the dry rubbed chicken wings were the best I've had in my life! I'm improving my food score in this review!

I have never eaten here, but have grabbed a drink and hit the kiask.

The pub has great atmosphere with everyone excited to try the great brews that are constantly being rotated. Some people grip at how much they change the tap list, but come on... variety is the spice of life.

The kiask has the carry out sales. Sorry, no growler fills. They always have 3 to 5 of their 6pack formats available, a few bombers, and if you get lucky some barrel aged gems.
They limit everone to 2 cases since their prices are very good ($40 for case (24) sixers). They keep a list of what is available that day up to date on the web and on a chalk board at the kiask. The guy who runs the kiask is always happy and friendly.

I see a lot of people bashing Floyds because they can't get Zombie Dust or some rare release, but thats what makes it kind of fun. If they gave everyone a heads up, rather than announcing the sale list in the morning, the line would be a mile long.

Good people, Great beer. I'll always stop in when I am traveling to/from Chicago.
