A - Hard pour results in about a finger of very white head on top of a hazy golden body.

S - Malt aroma is a touch toasty and quite bready, reminding me of sourdough bread in particular. The mild but present leathery funk and mineral-like earthy notes are balanced by a Belgian candy sugar presence that is a little more overwhelming than I personally prefer. Overall this is a subtle aroma, but what is there is very inviting.

T - Again, the Belgian candy sugar is quite overwhelming, but does allow the sourdough malt presence and a nice herbal-minty flavor to sneak into my palate. Spicy, earthy (blue cheese, horse blanket) flavors mix with the herbs and Belgian candy sugar in the finish to provide a finish that manages to be both the climax of the beer, while still being mild enough to not overtake the food on the table.

M - Mild body, but somewhat coating in the finish. Enough carbonation.

O - Defiantly a table beer. This beer is nice, but maybe subtle to a fault until you let it play with food. I threw it at a lentil/mushroom/kale pasta dish and it really shined, cleaning the lentil off my tongue, while highlighting the mushroom and spices of the dish. The sweetness of the Belgian candy sugar seemed to help balance out the dryness of the dish as a whole. Great balance of flavors and a quality Biere de Garde.

Continued tour of French beers. Bought in Lyon, poured chilled in ale glasses, chez buzzlitebeer

A: bright; light, like a champagne/prosecco; foamy head; good lacing
S: like a dry white wine or prosecco; grape aroma
T: bright, pilsner-like quality; apple cider in the body; the yeast (champagne?) is a strong element; very much like a fruit or cider beer

Really nice, well worth a trip.

3 Monts Flanders Golden Ale

Appearance: Lovely deep gold color, little bubbles of carbonation rising to meet the fluffy head. The head is full of tight foamy bubbles, and lasted for a few moments. Lacing was nothing special, just a few patches around the glass rim.

Smell: Definitely has some sweet malt blended with fruity lemon and orange esters. Light spices, coriander and hints of clove. Very subtle and delicate aromas.

Taste&Mouthfeel: Very nice. The medium body is light but has the depth of spices. The malt seems to have hints of wheat, and is cut by the spices. There is a little heat on the back end from the alcohol, which surprised me because it's not a particularly strong in ABV beer. I wanted slightly more citrus, though the beer had sharp acidity, it still lacked the flavors of orange and lemon my nose had led me to believe would be present. Good carbonation is a major plus in this brew.

Overall: It is refreshing as a brew, esp after drinking so many IPAs lately. I passed my glass around and it was a crowd pleaser. Personally, it was a little sharp in heat and acid with not enough esters to mellow out the flavor of the malt and coriander. Still, as I said, the others in the room gave it higher marks than I.
