Hazy rustic reddish rusty hue, with a thin sticky lace. Peppery, candied fruity, ester, caramely, bready and yeasty complex aroma.

Lighter body for a barleywine, lots of raw flavours of yeast, grain and alcohol. Hops are laid back with a woody earthy flavour. Yeast, malt and fruit are blended very well with a bready candied fruit flavour. On the sweet side though finishes a bit dry with grainy notes and a growing alcohol.

Tasty and very in the raw, a creamy sipping style brew and a perfect way to end the night.

On-tap @ Bukowski's in Boston. Served in an 8oz wine glass.

A murky, chocolate brown beer with a sturdy off-white laced head. Rather patchy and bitty ... good retention.

Aroma is very malty, fruity with loads of esters and alcohol.

Wow ... this beer is quite light on-tap, but still creamy and smooth. Malty, but not really sweet, with toasty bread, hints of caramel, candied-fruit cake and pineapple, or rather fruit cocktail juice (the leftover stuff after you eat all of the fruit from the cup). Big yeasty character. Loads of alcohol warmth. Thin finish for a barleywine. I wanted more body, more malt richness ... but it wasn't there.

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.

Pours a hazy honey orange with a foamy orange-tan head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Small swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Tiny chunks of sediment are seen floating around in the beer after the pour. Smell is of malt, honey, caramel, toffee, and alcohol aromas. Taste is much the same with honey, caramel, toffee, and slight herb flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of earth bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with an interesting herb like flavor I am getting.

I am a little surprised by the negatives on this one. It really does not fit the style, but I enjoyed it.

Appearance - The beer poured a deep golden color with a modest off-white head.

Smell - The aroma was fairly nondescript. The malts and grains come to the front without any sense of hops or sweetness detectable.

Taste - This is a good impression of the style. There is not a hop presence and malts are the main presence. Detectable are notes of sweetness and perhaps some notes of nuttiness. The aftertaste ran a little dry.

Mouthfeel - The beer certainly felt like a barelywine with a malty thickness that coated the tongue. In terms of mouthfeel, this is a well crafted barleywine.

Overall - The profile does not entirely match the style, but I enjoyed the beer. I probably would not seek it, but I would drink it again.

750ml bottle poured into a large snifter.

A: Tawny in color. Murky. White head settles into a thin cap quickly. Spotty lacing.

S: Runny caramel and bread crust. Stiff alcohol, strong tropical estery component. Lots of pineapple and pureed mango. A touch earthy. Floral hops.

T: Thin, runny caramel. Toasted biscuit and bread crust. Stiff punch of solventy alcohol. Tropical esters. Mild floral and citrus pith hop tastes. Biscuit and alcohol on the finish.

M: Lighter in body than expected, but still creamy and chewy. Low carbonation. Alcohol heat.

O: This is simply not a good beer. The malt backbone lacks richness and character, and it is far too boozy. A harsh beer to drink, and lacking in any redeeming qualities. Misses the mark by a wide margin.

Thanks to my friend Ricky for sharing this I probably never would have bought on my own.

Nice fluffy 1 finger head fades at a med pace, big fluffy lacing, hazy thick sediment laden orange amber color.

Nose big malts but not super sweet, little candy, toffee, butterscotch, light baking spices and nutty toffee, a light Xmas spice candy like cardamom thing, hint grassy hops, the strange floral aroma I can't put my finger on is an Elderflower like aroma.

Taste semi sweet, lots of reddish candy malts, light sweet booze and hint esters, light spicy earthy hops, more toffee butterscotch and the Xmas candy spices, bit if booze warmth, licorice and elderflower again, sticky light syrupy. Finish is sweet candy, syrupy, more reddish candy, light spices.

Mouth is syrupy med to heavier bod, decent carb, warming booze, meh.

Overall meh, nothing special, doesn't really do a whole lot in terms of barleywine like flavors, it was more of a winter warmer that was on the mediocre side. But it's not too bad.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter.
-Appearance brown with a lingering brownish/white head about a quarter inch
-smell was ok...fruity and pungent although my wife said it smelled repulsive/mold and she likes the smell of other barley wines
-tasted fruity boozy but the after taste left a bit of acidic dryness and coated my mouth with molasses taste
-overall I would probably avoid it as my go to barleywine (dogfish olde school and green flash are much better)
