Bright yellow and a bit dark for a helles. Nice bright white fluffy head.
Great classic lager smell and taste. Sweet with a touch of lemon in the aftertaste. Very refreshing.
The feel is a little thick seems to be missing some on the carbonation.
Overall a tasty beer with great lager characteristics.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine Volume II, Issue VI:

The "lightest" of their beers, it's brewed in October with Belgian lager malt, German Munich malt, some wheat malt, Mt. Hood hops and Hallertau hybrid hops, lagered and then sold the following summer.

Pours a hazy golden color with tons of carbonation that creates a billowy and tight foam that seeks to escape the glass. The nose is soft and bready, with a slight musty and husky character, faint vinous and herbal notes. Body is thicker than expected--full and round and a bit viscous, very creamy and smooth on the palate too. More bready malt characters--bready dominates the brew--followed by a light sweetness, grape note from the Munich malt and herbal hop flavor that's got a slight spicy kick to it. Sweet cereal grains toward the finish, which turn a bit coarse, dry and grainy ... oh, and moreish--Cisco was right.

Summer of Lager is a fantastic lager that comes in at just under 6 percent alcohol by volume and is full of flavor, while maintaining its balance and subtleties--as a good lager should. Definitely a must try for lagerheads or anyone wanting to try a solid interpretation of a German Munich Helles.

This is going to be a tough review. I dont know this style at all, what I do know is what I have is what I read in the BA explanation. Lets just say, I dont know where to begin.

Ive decided to give this beer a 4.15. Im going to try and average it out this way. This intro is in hindsight, as I have no concept of this style. However, as you (if you) read my review, you hopefully will appreciate the ranking of a style I know nothing about.

Looks unfiltered, though not exactly. Some head, typical stayingu power of an ale, much more than an expected lager. Is that grapefruit I smell? Dont get me wrong, but do I smell sea water? Not sea water in a bad way, but in a good way that I cant explain.

Citrus, wheat lager. Thats what I got. Biting of a lager, sweet citrus, and that unfiltered aspect of a wheat. Very interesting. No ale in this brew. No real hops to speak of.

Alcoholic for a lager. Im drinking this colder that most brews, I think it was a good choice. Im not the biggest lager fan, but this may be the funnest lager Ive tried.

Makes me think of a seasonal lager. Do you know a seasonal lager not named a winter? Maybe marzen like but not of the same kin.

Very drinkable. I would love to find this on draft, however unlikely that would be. I highly recommend one of these bombers to any one who considers themselves a true beer fan.

12oz brown bottle with no freshness date. One can only assume that if it is still summer the summer seasonals are still good.

Pale yellow color glows in the light, chunky white lace. Smells of fresh animal feed grain, thick grassy nose with some fresh herbs in the back. Smooth with a crisp snap. Very grainy but not too rough and certainly not astringent. Mouthful of fresh grass, hint of apple skin ... mealy. A lot of flavor packed into this lager, lots of grassy flavor. Semi-dry finish.

Not too shabby, perhaps not rough but still pretty raw tasting. Worth a try though one was good enough for me.

12oz bottle at fridge temp poured into an SA perfect pint glass. no freshness date to be found.

pours out a slightly cloudy deep golden/ light copper color with a small head that quickly faded leaving just some patchy foam. no lace to speak of.

a nicely balanced aroma of biscuit malt, herbal earthy hops and mineral water. nothing to really write home about, but definatly no flaws.

what i really enjoy right off the first sip is the great tasting biscuit malt. fresh slightly buttery, toasty, biscuits with some toffee caramel towards the finish. hops are there and lend a nice sense of balance with still a little bitterness, light citrus, more fruity herbal. a bit of mineral water taste reminds you its a lager.

lighter bodied, almost medium. lots of carbonation, but nothing fizzy, makes for a refreshing beer. very easily drinkable.

overall, i was very pleased with this beer. not usually a huge fan of lagers, but this delivers tastes everyone can love, enough complexity to suit a beer geek such as myself, but still easily pounded by someone who enjoys swill. im definatly intrigued with what this brewery has to offer and hopefully i can find more of their beers.

Review from notes.Had a few of these at a BBQ over Memorial Day Weekend.

A: Pours a clear golden color with a nice two finger white head on top. Pretty good retention, lasting for a few minutes, leaving behind some streaky lacing.

S: Faint citrus and grassy hops, some grain, and a little bit of spice comes forward. Pretty clean.

T: Some grain and bready malt upfront with some grassy hops that balance the malt nicely. There is some faint fruit, mostly lemon and a little apple.

M: Light to medium bodied, very crisp and easy drinking.

O: Was quite enjoyable, perfect for the BBQ and sipping around the pool, especially in cans. At the time did not realize it was 6.25%, very nice for that abv.

A deep golden amber color and slight, white head, classic look.

Very intense yeast aroma, strange sourness, very malty sweet in the middle, like honey. Musky, herbal and sour.

A very pure and clean effect right off, lager flavor's galore, yummy sour/bready/herbal yeast, dry and refreshing effect. Golden wheat in the malt, again, very crisp. grand balance for this style and hops are not out-of-control!! A subtle woody, bready malt effect later on with a nice hit of herbs and spices.

This one is just a classic lager!

Carefully poured from a longstanding 750ml bottle, the Summer of Lager is a crystal-clear deep-gold with an orange-ish cast. It's frothy bright-white head holds exceptionally well, no doubt buoyed by the steadily streaming effervescent carbonation from below; and it leaves wide sheets of thin but solid lace about the glass. The nose is clean, bright and fresh just like summer, with notes of malt, cut-grass, and flowers. The body is medium with a dextrinous edge; and it's zesty and then creamy across the palate with a very fine-bubbled, natural (it's bottle-conditioned), effervescent carbonation. The flavor reveals a sweetish, slightly toasty and "juicy" malt (typical of Munich malt) that's laced with grassy, floral, and subtly spicy hops; and balanced by a low-key bitterness that's just enough to dry it in the finish leaving the palate refreshed and ready for another sip. It's rich without being satiating, and it's immensely drinkable. It's very well done, and the 6.25% alcohol is never noticeable! It's certainly worth trying, and probably one of Cisco's best beers!

The beer pours a hazy pale gold color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a light pale malt scent with a slight lemony zest and a dry lager yeast aroma. The taste is good. It has a light and fruity pale malt flavor with a tart finish. It is lemony and quite refreshing. The mouthfeel is good. It is a low bodied beer with good carbonation. This is an excellent lager and a real summer time treat.

A- Pours a golden yellow color with an off-white head.

S- The aroma is pale malts, fresh citrus notes (lemon), and hops.

T- The taste is light and crisp but has a really nice refreshing flavor. Pale malts, citrus and spicy hops in the finish make up the flavor profile.

M- The mouthfeel is light bodied with a good amount of carbonation.

O- Overall, this is a fantastic summer beer. It is light bodied and highly drinkable, but has enough flavor to make a very nice session beer without getting bored. Did not know this was over 6% ABV, that surprised me! It is very drinkable! Recommended!

Had a pint at Liberty St Tavern. I assumed this was a pilsner, based on the strong, spicy hop character. It's not overpowering, but provide a tasty balance to the mild toasty grains. The beer didn't have soft bready feel of a classic helles, but that doesn't really matter, this is a fine lager worth enjoying over the summer.

Pourer from a 12 oz bottle into a pilsener- pours a clear Goldman straw color; visibly effervescent with 2 fingers plus head that dissipates pretty quickly and leaves a little bit of lacing.

Smell is appropriate for the style- nice light balance of pale Munich malt, yeast and noble hops.

Taste is exactly the same as the smell.

Mouthfeel is good- light body, good crisp carbonation. This is a very nice beer, but it can't stand up to the flavors of summer food (flavor was stomped out by a burger). For this style just get weihenstephaner.

The little yellow flower says it all, too bad it wasn't around in '69. A nice golden lager, with steady carbonation. A little hoppy with a very complex taste. Crisp would be an understatement. This is by far the best beer Cisco puts out in the summer, but I could not find it on tap on the island. I'll have to go back and continue my search....
