I've been visiting the Library Ale House for about 4 or 5 years no. It was the first good beer spot I found while in school at UCLA. Even with the covered and heated back patio the place is not too big. The bar seats about 15 or so and the rest of the tables are usually seated by the hostess. The selection is very reasonable. Certainly not the best selection ever, but very good with around 25 beers on tap and 20+ good bottles available. Most of their taps are with California micro brews or other west coast beers. Occasionaly they will venture out with a beer from across the country.
The best thing about this place, besides the beer, is their NY Strip Steak Sandwich served in ciabata bread. That is what I get almost everytime I visit this place because it is so damn good. On my first visit to the Library Ale House I had the Steak Sandwich and a pint of Arrogant Bastard. It really doesn't get any better than that and I regularly return to this wonderful place to enjoy this same meal.
The place is usually filled with regulars. And in an area that is packed with restaurants and bars, it says something that the Library Ale House that they are packed every evening for dinner. If you're in the area, this is the place to eat and drink. AND HAVE THE STEAK SANDWICH!!

I think this is the best beer bar in the Venice/South Santa Monica Area.
Awesome portions of food for what youre paying for.
Knowledgeable staff, bartender will chat you up about beer if time allows him to do so.
Only like 18 handles but still all craft and their beer buyer is on point.
Sitting at a table servers can be slow, but on a busy night that is to be expected.
Few Tv's... i guess hipsters dont like sports :(
