Ok,"The Archive" is not a beer, I normally review beers, but lets get past it because The Archive (or "Arky" as I like to call it) is perhaps one of the best establishments in the country, nay the world! Big call you say? Well I would have said the same till I actually went there- it is quite literally an Australian boutique beer lovers paradise. I cannot think of an Aussie craft beer that doesn't reside within it's now hallowed walls (and nor need I as it's only a shortish walk from my place!).

A: Alright if you can get past the general atmosphere that is punctuated by posers, young gen Y'ers trying their first real beer and the usual West End derelicts Arky has much to offer in this department: pool tables, darts, classy old furniture, a fairly long bar (less people shoving each other to get served) and a decent amount of seating.

Q: Quality is a difficult criteria to measure. I mean it's no "Belgian Beer Cafe", but it's by no means a local pub either - it's sort of above average to excellent in this area. The brews on offer are sublime, the service top notch, however some of the furniture appears to have been purchased from an op-shop; now to me that adds to the charm but maybe not to others.

S: Aforementioned 'top notch'. The bar staff have a decent enough knowledge of their beers and are quick pint pourer's (they only sell schooners not pints btw).

R: The range is simply phenomenal! Nearly every craft beer that is brewed in Australia is sold here. I could quite easily spend a fortune just trying everything on the menu. There are even small local craft brewers here (one I drank many schooners was called "Blackbeard's Delight IPA" - awesome beer). The tap ales are of a wide enough range that you can get a schooner that will serve each taste mood you may have and they get rotated out every month or so. Also on premises is a bottleshop that sells hard to get beers like Mikkeller - I've never seen it sold anywhere else in Australia.

F: Food is decent enough but usual boutique beer garden stuff - Turkish bread and dips, beer battered chips, hamburgers, etc... nothing I would go out of my way for, but the beer... the beer... thats why we go there.

V: Borders on expensive for bottled beers whereas the fantastic selection of tap ales is very cheap for what you get. Food is at boutique prices.

Interesting craft beer bar. It is indeed a pleasant place for a beer on a warm summer afternoon in Brisbane. Airy and open, staff are polite and knowledgeable. But too much craft beer/hipster arrogance for me. I walked in there with a mate, we were a bit roasted, and said, "Do you have XXXX Gold or Tooheys Old?" The answer was, "This is a craft beer bar, sir". I had to assume that meant "no". Had something else I don't recall that wasn't as good as Toohey's Old, but was probably better than XXXX Gold.

I have only had beer here-have not eaten. I chanced across the archive while riding my bike around West end, Brisbane Australia.

Nice outlook on West End street scenes.Comfortable, roomy with a pleasant variety of bars.

Absolutely outstanding in range of beers available on tap. The stone and wood pacific ale, drunk on a warm Brisbane day, on tap, in a nicely embossed with "The Archive" (I was tempted to steal it but didn't) tapered chunky beer glass, is my current ultimate beer experience.

Great range of Australian and imported beer. The bar staff are very knowledgeable and friendly albeit in a nicely restarined way. If they sense you are really interested in the beer they will give you a taste of various types. Upon study of the bar staff, I would say they meet the meaning of the term 'hipsters" , both male and female. Many of the male bar staff have red hair and flowing red beards-sort of like being served by ZZ Top members in their youth.

Friendly vibe and people seemed to be enjoying the food-will update when I do.

As an American traveling thru Oz I'm checking out the craft scene. I'll keep my review short and say this is BY FAR one of the best, if not best craft bars in Oz. If in Brisbane and wanting great craft beer then look no further. Excellent selection, good people and nice atmosphere. I wish I could spend more time here. Way better than Belgian Beer cafe's found in most cities. Knowledge by the staff is reasonable but there is just too much for them to know about. Fortunately, with my smart phone and Beeradvocate.com I'm able to make great selections.
