A: Black body with a light tan head. Fluffy and creamy looking head. Good lacing.
S: Alcohol with a complement of caramel, in that direct order. Nothing else that I can discern. I'd say it smalls okay. It's not uninviting, it's just telling me "expect caramel and a lot of alcohol" and leaving it at that.
T: Wow very crazy rich. It's like drinking molasses, coffee, chocolate syrup (the ice-cream kind), and dare I say it bourbon. I find it pretty hilarious that I don't find any of this on the label. Huge bourbon flavor. Medium roasted coffee. Lots of rich dark chocolate. Insane flavor profile here. It tastes like unfermented beer. It's worth buying just to experience this flavor bomb. Not balanced at all, just a huge explosion of flavors. When I think of people going off the charts, trying to expand the limitless boundaries of what we call "American Strong Ale," this is exactly what I think of. Admittetly I am very impressed. I wasn't sure what to expect from a label that boasts "17 Malts, 17 Hops, 17% ALC. By Vol." I honestly was ready for it to be a mess, but approached it open-minded. As the beer warms, it lends flavors of oak to the palate.
M: Very full bodied, slick, sticky, syrupy. It's pretty hard to drink considering how thick this beer is, but it's so worth drinking. Absolutely a sipper. It's hard to rate it, because I can tell that the modus operandi of this beer is to be big and bold. I can't rate it perfect because it is very thick and syrupy, but it is a crazy wonderful feeling beer.
O: Well...I picked up this beer on a whim. I was not expecting how good this thing would be. I don't know if this is just one of the best secrets in the beer world or if it was just an amazing batch. This is the first beer I've had like this from the Shmaltz Brewery, but I will definitely be looking closer at them in the future. This beer is legendary.

Purchased as part of the 2013 Holiday gift pack. 17 malts, 17 hops, 17% ABV.
Brewed with 2-row, spelt, vienna, munich, rye, wheat, einkorn, emmer, chocolate, crystal rye, dark crystal, roasted barley, roasted wheat, flaked oats, caramunich 40, carapilsner and kiln amber.
Hopped with warrior, Columbus, Apollo, palisade, Golding, tettnang, ahtanum, cascade, Czech saaz, centennial, Chinook, santiam, simcoe, summit, Amarillo, citra, and crystal.
Pours out to an apparently clear near black with walnut highlights, forming a espresso crema head of medium tan with superior retention and lacing. Carbonation is a little on the softer side, ~2.0 carbs or so. The nose is of soy sauce, black walnut, dark molasses, chocolate syrup and fruity hops. The mouthfeel is syrupy, uber-dense, rich and oily. The taste is a recap of the aroma, however there is a pronounced woody note and more roast character than I picked up in the nose. The roast character is akin to that expected in a RIS, and it adds a moderate tartness to the mouthfeel (too much roasted malt and the tartness subtracts from the mouthfeel and drinkability for me). Brown sugar, pumpernickel crust, prune juice, dates and figs linger on the palette into the long aftertaste. Bitterness is moderate, enough to balance the huge malt bill nicely. The alcohol adds a peppery flourish to the finish, but is otherwise well hidden. Interesting cardamom note is barely perceptible. Very very subtle cardboard note but not enough to interfere or detract.
This is from the new Clifton park brewery and I'm happy to say, tastes just as good as all their other jewbelation beers. This beer is super-sturated and rich, demanding to be sipped over an hour. 1/2 bottle later and I'm feeling it. Yummy stuff.

Dark, sweet, syrupy. This is some strong medicine. Splashed out 1/3 each for son-in-law, his dad and meself on Father's Day. Really packs a wallop. Very little head, but so many complex flavaz in there, smoky and lots of spice and fruit. Mouthfeel is great, like Robitussin with exactly the same effect.
