Poured into Sam Adams serving glass.
Appearance: Pours a deep brown with minimal, manilla-colored head. The brew is dark in color, and shines a faint reddish brown when held up to the light. There are small traces of lacing on the edges of the glass. Standard look for a brown ale.
Smell: Has a sweet malty smell, almost like brown sugar. That's about the only thing I detect. Underwhelming, but not offensive either. Just average.
Taste: Begins with a sweet malty character, which gives way to a faint, nutty flavor. The finish contains a small trace of hoppy bitterness, although it passes quickly. This is a fairly straightforward beer with no real surprises. The flavor is nice, but not great. Once again, quite average.
Mouthfeel: Thin with a small amount of carbonation. The feel is unobtrusive and mild, which I wouldn't consider a compliment.
Drinkability: Given the overall averageness we have here, this makes for an easy drinking beer. However, since nothing about it really stands out, I couldn't imagine reaching for this with zeal.
I expected a little more from this brew. I wouldn't turn it down if offered to me, and it's better than the run-of-the-mill tap standards, but one can do much better than this in most situations.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, raisin, prune, toast, toffee, molasses, brown bread, chocolate, light roast, floral, light nuttiness, and toasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark malt notes with moderate fruitiness; and good strength. Taste of caramel, raisin, toast, toffee, brown bread, chocolate, light roast, floral, light nuttiness, and toasted earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, raisin, chocolate, brown bread, light nuttiness, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a bit. Nice balance and complexity of dark/bready malt flavors; with a solid amount of robustness and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice brown ale. Good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.
