Now Quaffing: Messiah Bold - Brown Ale
Pours a medium reddish-brown with only a half inch head and not much lacing. Smell is mostly sweet with some roasted notes poking through occasionaly (caramel, toffee). The taste is dominated by sweetness with the roasted malts becoming more aparent as the beer warms up. There is a slight bitterness in the backend that lingers and I think I even tasted some hops in there : ). This is kind of a middle of the road brown that is a decent combination of roasted goodness and high drinkability.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, raisin, prune, toast, toffee, molasses, brown bread, chocolate, light roast, floral, light nuttiness, and toasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark malt notes with moderate fruitiness; and good strength. Taste of caramel, raisin, toast, toffee, brown bread, chocolate, light roast, floral, light nuttiness, and toasted earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, raisin, chocolate, brown bread, light nuttiness, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a bit. Nice balance and complexity of dark/bready malt flavors; with a solid amount of robustness and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice brown ale. Good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.
