Let me preface this by saying that I have tried every He'brew beer (except for the pre-9 Jewbelations) released to date, and found each to be worthy of at least a B, and in several cases, an A. Hell, the Messiah Bold is one of my favorite all time beers. Coney Island, also run but Schmaltz, doesn't seem to compare. After being seriously disappointed by Freaktoberfest and Swordswallower, I decided to try my very last Coney Island beer, hoping that it would be in league with the Genesis 10:10 or the Rejewvenator. Sadly, it was not. This, like the other two Coney Island brews I've tried, was awful, and a complete waste of money. I tossed it after a half-bottle.

Pours a sick-man pale yellow with a thick white head of foam that takes a rather long time to dissipate, leaving a decent lace. As to the smell, I pick up a bit of lemon, some other fruits, and wheat. Neither look nor smell were strengths, but they were far better than taste.

Too strong of a wheat taste (even for the style), which was countered only by using an abusive amount of ginger made this an unpleasant drinking experience. It wasn't so much complex as it was indecent, creating challenge on in determining how much of a bottle one may tolerate.

Ultimately, it was money poorly spent. But, having tossed half a bottle, I can safely say I'd not have it again, even on somebody else's dime.

I really wish they'd expand the He'brew line instead of this Coney Island junk.

Got this one from Jason on his way to Kalamazoo.

A: Medium yellow color. Decent head formation with no retention.

S: Smells like an herbal cough drop. There is some sweet malt, and I do get a hint of hops, but mostly it smells like medicine.

T: Jason asked me "What is this supposed to taste like?" I didn't know either. It really tasted like a weak lager with coriander in it.

M: Decent carbonation and a thin mouthfeel do not add up to anything good here.

D: Drainpour.

(From Notes)

No, no, no. While they took a big risk by incorporating flavors like ginger and coriander into a witbier/pale lager blend, the entire beer fell flat and I ended up giving this to my roommate after a half glass.

On tap at a local beer festival. White/yellow color and a thin, white head. Smell was alluring, spicy, and citrusy. Fruit and ginger flooded the mouth, with an onslaught of coriander and sharp, tangy, citrusy flavors that were just not meant to go together, let alone go together in beer. Hops flooded in, too, and far too sharp and subtle to flush out the poor taste. Watery in the mouth and dry and awful on the back end. It was at best a really badly-concocted spice beer with a witbier-wannabe body and without the smoothness or any taste.

A: Nice hazy yellow, but no head whatsoever. No carbonation.

S: Most of time I give bad ratings in this category, it is because the nose in nonexistent. In this beer's (and maybe brewery's) case, they go overboard. The bouquet is vast...caraway, coriander, ginger, etc...but it just doesn't work.

T: The taste was spot on with the aroma. No balance whatsoever; just overpowering spiciness, that turned sour at the finish.

M: Not very carbonated at all, which helped accentuate the painful taste.

D: I wouldn't drink another one of these if you paid me.

12oz bottle. Pours a hazy dark gold with a big rocky white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet citrusy malts, floral spices, and ginger. Smells a bit like soapy household cleaning supplies.

The flavor is more of the same - sweet malts, floral spices and a lot of spicy ginger. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with sharp carbonation.

Overall, tastes like a soapy ginger wit. Interesting but not too appealing to me.

A- Pours out of bottle with very little head. Color is a very hazy with some sediment

S - Nose filled with noting but spices, it smells like a poorly made cider

T - Again, like a rotten cider, while this certainly pushes boundries and is new and inventive...but not all that good. Somebody more into spiced beer would probably like this more.

M/D - The extreme spiciness makes this hard to drink. the mouthfeel is thin and watery.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a mug glass.

A: The beer is a deep yellow color, with a large white head that fades quickly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of spices, lemon, wheat, light malts and some hops.

T: The taste is fruity and very spicy up front with flavors of ginger, clove, coriander, lemons, and oranges. There's a strong backbone of wheat but a thin malt character. The hops presence is mild and there doesn't seem to be much of a balance. The after-taste is spicy and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp with a little smoothness but there's a slickness to it as well, light body, very high carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: Not very tasty, does not go down too easily, not too filling, decent kick, not the best representation of style, I just did not like very much about this beer but I suppose if someone liked the taste this would be a pretty drinkable beer.

A- Pours a cloudy light golden honey color with some sediment floating around. 2 finger bright white head, nice lacing left behind.

S- Ginger, lemon, wheat. There's some spices in here as well, hard to pinpoint exactly what they are. The smell is fairly pungent. I'm not sure I like the prominent ginger odour, it's really aggresive.

T- Man, the Ginger is so strong. I like spice in a lot of my beers, but this just doesn't taste right. You can pick up the wheat and citrus flavors as well.

M- Medium-full bodied, moderate carbonation.

D- It's not for me, definitely the worst offering I've had from shmaltz. This was part of my beer of the month, I've got 2 more of them. Sigh...

I wasn't sure what this was gong to be like but I didn't care for it and it does seem rather like a wheat ale although called a "white lager," the meaning of which is obscure.

Slightly hazy yellow straw, it has a huge white head slowly shrinking to a thin, wispy top and leaving a hint of weak lace.

The aroma is fruit, a lot of pear, with some grain, and a bit like a Belgian witbier.

TYhe taste is a but unusual but with wheat-ale or witbier elements. It tastes mostly of pear and Squirt soda pop (mixed lemon-grapefruit soda pop flavour), with the Squirt taking over more, but a bit more bitter. It ends up being quite grapefruti but more in a bitter version of Squirt than the usual grapefruit character I normally encounter. It's also otherwise lacking and it's pretty one-dimensional.

Picked up at Wilbur's in Fort Collins, as part of a mixed six pack. Pours a dark urine color, that is seriously carbonnated, with bubbles dancing throughout, although it quickly settles into an almost flat beer. Not much nose, just a little subtle spice. Heavy ginger/cardamom/coriander flavors on the palate, lead to a lingering bitter finish. Not that good.

Taste like bud light lime on steroids. If you like the taste of lime in your beer, you should definelty try this, otherwise I would stay away. It had a lighter flavor, and would have a very drinkable quality if not for the lime and I actually think it could have been a decent tasting beer if they could dial back the lime-like flavor quite a bit.

A - Hazy golden nice white head that clung well.

S - Smells awesome citrusy and hoppy.

T - This is were it goes wrong. Has a kind of floor cleaner or furniture polish citrus taste that I can't get past. Linger reminds me of public restroom liquid soap.

M - Mouth feel is status quo.

O - Can't think of anything constructive to say about this beer. I won't be getting it again.

Bottle courtesy of rmalinowski4. Served in a tulip.

Pours a clear peach-golden color with a thin white head that recedes quickly and ends with a ringy collar. The nose carries a bit of light wheat and bread, and also a bit of odd spice that doesn't really fit. Seems like white pepper. The flavor carries some more of this character. White pepper and some other spice. Very strange. Bread and a bit of caramel in the background. The body is medium with light carbonation. Very strange beer, not a big fan.

$5.99 for a 22oz bottle @ Bevco. A lager brewed with specialty 2-row, torrified wheat, weyermann acidulated malt, flaked oats, and caramel pils. Hopped with Warrior, Saaz, and Summit. Flavored with ginger, crushed fennel and sweet orange peel. 6% ABV.

Pours out to a burnt orange, forming a tall white head with superior retention and solid lacing, moderately carbonated. The aroma is very per-fumy with lots of floral qualities...the ginger really stands out, with more subtle fennel, and hidden orange peel. The mouthfeel is bright with a medium body. The taste opens with the ginger and it carries through long into the aftertaste, nearly overpowering everything else, spare some floral mild bitterness towards the middle. Cleanly fermented. Because it's a lager, there is none of the Belgian Wit character one might think might be coming.

Overall, I'm not really digging this beer. The ginger is overwhelming, and I want more yeast character. I could see them doing a Wit with the exact same ingredients minus the ginger and it would be a damn good beer.
