Freaktoberfest is a hauntingly complex, deep amber, pumpkin and espresso ale. Caramel aromas intermingle with hints of allspice and cinnamon. A roasted rich body is highlighted by Greenpoint’s own Cafe Grumpy’s specially selected espresso beans, and is finished with sweet pumpkin.

Malts: 2 Row, Flaked Oats, Flaked Rye, Kilned Coffee Malt
Hops: Tettnang
Special Ingredients: Pumpkin Puree, Allspice, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Espresso Beans

From notes 10/18/12: Pours an opaque, cranberry amber producing 1.5 fingers of pink, yes pink, frothy, somewhat lasting head that leaves blotchy wisps and rings of lace. Aroma is spice, vegetal pumpkin, yeast, spicy hops, coffee and caramel malt with a hint of biscuit. Taste is sweet, spicy, vegetal pumpkin, caramel and faint coffee moving to tart with the rapid emergence of hoppy bitterness even before mid-sip. It finishes quite dry and bitter with a off putting mineral, chalky quality that lingers long into the bitter, tart aftertaste.

Popped...poured...whiffed. There's something going on here. Mine poured with a very nice head that hung around. And the smell was a reliable introduction to the taste. This is a complex pumpkin ale compared to most of the others and in my opinion it's the espresso beans and light hand on the allspice or clove that most likely make the difference. Yeah, to be expected there's spice but mostly cinnamon as far as I can tell. A tad on the sweet side but smooth, round and flavorful are how I'd describe this baby. And the 6.2 ABV is a bonus that you're hardly aware of.

Coney Island isn't a brewery I think all that highly of. Their beer is ok and the brewery itself is pretty small (I went there once before a KSE/ Volbeat show on the boardwalk). This may be an exception to their normal beers as I really enjoy this one. Its basically a coffee larger with some pumpkin spice. Think of it as the pumpkin frapp of the beer world. Its very easy to drink, tastes very good and is poundable. Coney Island has a winner here.

From bottle at home. Best before notched at Dec'16. Nice deep amber/copper color with a classy, rich head that leaves sheets of lacing.

The coffee's there as are the usual pumpkin ale characters. What counts is the balance. The balance is right. The word harmonious comes to mind. The quality carries over into the smooth mouth feel. The espresso is all over the finish, hanging on like a pleasant memory.

All in, this is a really good brew and the 6.2ABV is a nice plus.

Sorry to all you freak seekers, this is at best genuinely & interesting different combination.

One of the better pumkin ales. The expresso beans add a great touch. A wonderful golden red color, great pumkin ale taste and smell. I very much enjoyed this pumkin ale.

Nice take on a classic pumkpin ale. Drinkin straight from the bottle, nice spicy aroma and good bitter mouth feel (which I think is my favorite aspect). Heavy pumpkin and coffee taste which is well balanced. One of the better pumpkins I've tasted this season.
