look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4

A - pretty much opaque in my big 750ml snifter, no light or shading around the edges, very small tan head despite an agressive pour that quickly recedes to a couple splotches and a rim, no lacing

S - bready, toasty, carmel, light milk chocolate, clean, molasses, licorice, rich maltiness, maybe just a hint of sweet citrus hops (amarillo) to round things out, but quite faint

T - lots of raisin, hint of licorice in the aftertaste is about as roasty as it gets, finish is long and lingering, some earthy hop bitterness finally shows up, lip smacking malt and alcohol, huge malt bomb

M - fairly heavy, really coats the mouth, but enough carbonation and alcohol to dry things up, alcohol is there, but very smooth, mouthfeel really adds to the overall character of the beer

D - very drinkable for a beer this big and malty

I'm thinking they only used 12 hop cones in this beer. The label does say "brewed with 12 malts & 12 hops" so you never know.

So yeah, get over the fact that this beer is not hoppy. You want extreme? How about maltiness up the wazoo? This beer has it, and yet the alcohol is incredibly tame. I love how it comes up just short of that roasted character, yet it's not boring like a lot of imperial brown ales. I'd actually characterize this as more of a wee heavy, and one of the best I've come across. A fantastic beer.

Hebrew Jewbelation 12

LOOK: Pours a dark brown, opaque, but without sediment. Short lived tan head forms and fades somewhat quickly. Carbonated bubbles rise lazily to the surface, as if the alcohol by weight in this beer has made them dizzy.

SMELL: Chocolate malt, alcohol, rye, toffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toast, tobacco, leather, nuts, dark fruits.

TASTE: Roasted malts, nuts, and alcohol upfront. Molasses, coffee and mild bitterness on the back end. Earthy, raw hop flavor with notes of herb, citrus, mint and leaves. Tobacco and extra dark brown sugar are in the finish, giving off a strong candied malt impression. A bit of extra dark soy sauce has crept into this brew, showing a bit of oxidation. Finishes with chocolate syrup and a presence of alcohol

FEEL: A full bodied ale, just enough carbonation has held up to carry the beer. The low level of carbonation and relatively heavy body makes for a syrupy brew that some tasters describe as chewy.

OVERALL: There are some bold flavors in this brew, and the age is starting to show. Pleasing enough to sip upon, and warms the soul. A good strong ale, the cellar is treating me good today!

$5.99 for a 22oz bomber. Brewed with 12 different grains/malts: Specialty 2 row, Kiln Amber, Carapils, Chocolate, Crystal Rye, Dark Crystal, Munich, Oatmeal, Rye Ale, Spelt, Vienna, and Wheat. Hopped with 12 different hops: Ahtanum, Amarillo, Cascade, Crystal, Fuggle, Hallertau, Mt. Hood, Palisade, tettnang, US Golding, US Saaz, and Warrior. 12% ABV.

Pours out to a very dark brown, forming a dark brown, almost purple tinged head with excellent retention and solid lacing. Carbonation is mild to moderate. The aroma opens with intense dark fruits...lots of figs, dates, prunes, and raisins, chocolate, vanilla, walnut, dark molasses and some distant herbal/resinous hops. The mouthfeel is huge, rich, silky smooth, complex and syrupy. Huge, dense body. The taste opens with dark molasses, soy sauce, prune juice and chocolate, akin to Sam Adams Triple Bock. Slight fusels are hidden in the finish, but disappear quickly. There is a slightly perfumy, floral quality that I can't put my hands on. Aftertaste is of bittersweet chocolate, prune juice and soy sauce. Compared to the 11, there is much more prune juice and soy sauce and the mouthfeel is more syrupy.

At $5.99/bomber, this is an amazing steal for an exceptional beer. I just called my best friend up and told him to buy whatever was left in the store. This should cellar amazingly well. HIGHLY recommended. The best beer I've had in a long time.
