When I put this beer away almost three years ago, I knew that hot mess was going to turn into something special. I've never been so glad to be so right. Fresh, Jewbelation 14 was a heady beast; just a ton of hops with interesting malts in the background. Now it's developed into something that's perfectly balanced.

There are still some hops here, unless that bitterness is from some of the malts or from the yeast. But the malts are the superstars here. I taste tons of smokey and maple syrup flavors. Sort of like a porter, but much more deep and complex. There are so many flavors going on that it's hard to even start to list them; raisins, birch beer, plums, overripe bananas, apple pie spices, madeira wine, and just about everything in between. It's like a Thomas Hardy's old ale met Life and Limb, exchanged DNA in a wild malty love affair, and popped out a beautiful child after being pregnant in my basement for three years.

This is easily one of my top 5 beers in the world, and quite possibly the best beer I've ever had. A perfect score is much deserved.

I have another in my possession, and I'm thinking I'll try it in another 3 years.

12oz bottle purchased as part of a gift pack that included Jewbelation 8-14 and vertical. Brewed with 14 grains (specialty 2-row, Vienna, Munich, wheat malt, chocolate malt, crystal rye, dark crystal, rye ale, caramunich 40, carapilsner, kiln amber, flaked spelt, flaked oats, and flaked quinoa.). Hopped with 13 hops (amarillo, apollo, cascade, centennial, crystal, fuggles, german spalt, Northern brewer, simcoe, styrian bobeck, summit, tettnang, vangaurd and warrior)..and you guessed it, 14% ABV.

Pours out to as clear black, not super viscous and oily as one might expect, forming a whipped and espresso crema like head of medium tan with superior retention and rock solid sticky sheets of lacing. Carbonation is moderate, ~2.5 carbs or so. The aroma is tons of dark fruit...black walnut, prune juice, soy sauce, figs, dates, carob, some subdued (in comparison) herbal and spicy hops with a touch of roast character. No appreciable off aromas. Not boozy at all considering the 14% ABV. Mouthfeel is viscous, oily, syrupy and leaves a glamorous sheen on the tongue with a huge richly dense body...velvety in nature. The taste is a recap of the aroma...all of the dark fruits are here in droves, balanced by a spicy and herbal hop bitterness which is very well balanced with the huge malt body. There is a subtle sting of the hops in the finish with an herbal acidity. There is also a lingering coffee bite in the finish.

An excellent beer. The Jewbelations are a tour of force when it comes to huge concentrated flavor, pleasant drinkability, balance and affordability. They are consistently excellent. Highly recommended. Would definitely buy it again.

Pours a dark brown with a solid inch of off white, tan head. Leaves some lace behind on the pint. Aroma of roasted malts, dark fruits, cherry, and alcohol. In the taste, very sweet with loads of brown sugar and molasses. Quite sweet, but it cuts the booze that one might expect from a 14%ABV beer. Light roasted malt flavor adds a porter like element. Hints of vanilla, brown sugar, and malt candies are all over this decadent brew. Coffee, malty sugars, caramel and a slight earthy hop. The hops are done for, this beer is sweet. It's really good actually, though just shy of cloying. Toasty and sweet, and quite good indeed. There is a medium bodied, velvety mouthfeel with low carbonation. Smooth and really hardly any alcohol burn. This is a fine strong ale, which really holds up well. A malt bomb, with just enough roast and strength to keep it interesting. I'd buy up a bottle of this if I came across it, I think 14 is peaking.

22 oz. bottle poured into a Burley Oak snifter

A: It is a very dark brown with a nice amber tinge to it with a nice tiny mocha head. It is

S: Smells like a strong, slightly boozy barleywine. Raisins, caramel, toffee, and sweet malts all over.

T: There is a bit of funky aftertaste that you get way in the back but it is very faint. It is quite delicious with a bit of booziness to it. This is quite full tasting and actually quite sweet. Caramel, toffee, sweet malts, and lots of raisin flavors. There is also a quite a lot of chocolate and a tiny bit of espresso as well.

M: Just a nice bit of prickliness in there but it is quite smooth and just a bit syrupy/velvety. Low carbonation.

O: I can't imagine liking this fresh, but it is tasting quite good now. Excellent sipper. It is quite a lot for a 22oz. bottle but that is about it.

22oz. bomber: This one pours an inky, bark brown color. There was a bit of a brown head on it that leaves some lacing. Decent enough nose. Lots of malts to the nose. Chocolate, caramel, dark fruits are most prevalent. Also getting some citrus and pint hops. Also a bit of alcohol. The taste is pretty good. Some caramel and chocolate malt sweetness. Raisins, vanilla, molasses, hints of coffee. Lots going on here, but a pretty decent mix.
