Single bottle (no date I could find on bottle) poured into a shaker pint glass.
Appearance. Translucently cloudy orange-brown beer that poured a 1/4" off-white foam that died down to a foam just across the top with some density at the ring of the glass. Not so thin to be a film, but not really thick enough to be a significant foam. Plenty of bubbles coming up through the glass. Some strands of lacing noted here and there.
Smell: Very faint toasted malt, and only that on a really deep inhale. That's about it.
Taste: Roasted/char flavors right up front, some quick malt sweetness in the middle and then it moves quickly into a bitter hop (piney and citrus) finish. Not bad.
Mouthfeel: Good carbonation on the tongue, just right in slickness and coating of the mouth going down. Good thickness but it leaves a tiny bit on the teeth.
Drinkability: Quite drinkable....and in a bit of shame went well with a pork BBQ meal. I just thought a brown ale would go well with dinner and didn't even think about it until after I poured it. A kosher beer with pork. Ummm...sorry. Anyway, it went pretty well and by itself that bitterness and roasted malt flavor really is growing on me. Other than the lack of strong smell, this is an all around good beer.

Pours a slightly hazy, watery brown with a frothy quarter inch cream head that lingers.
Muted citrus, resin, and toasted, nutty caramel malt form the aroma. There's a hint of chocolate.
Grapefruit pith and lemon underlie a strong, nutty malt backbone, becoming a touch resiny and bitter in the dry finish.
Body is moderate to a bit thin, with moderate carbonation and a fairly stringent finish.
Hops and malt are fairly well balanced. The astringent finish is somewhat offputting. I'm not a huge lemon fan, but the malt backbone is nice.
