Balanced between a West Coast style pale and amber ale with just enough malt sweetness to highlight a flurry of hop aroma and flavor

He’Brew Genesis Session Ale is orange/tan in color with a slightly hazy body and a nose that combines pine, bread, and fruity hop elements. The beer produces a decent amount of foam at first, but it eventually settles down, still managing to leave a small amount of lace on the sides of the glass.
This ale is reasonably complex with flavors of caramel malt, toasted barley, pine, mixed fruits and even a touch of butterscotch, but not in the diacetyl sense- more in the candy sense. The finish of this beer has little or no hop bite, even though it is dry hopped.
Shmaltz Brewing is certainly a respectable brewery and I like every product I have sampled from it. What is nice is that most of its products are very middle of the road: Approachable and drinkable without going over the top in any direction. Genesis Dry Hopped Session Ale is certainly a product that fits this description. It is moderate in most every way and, like its name says, it is a very good session beer.
Some of the craft beer geeks among us may find this product a little too tame, but it is actually a good brew overall and I appreciated it more and more with each passing sip. It’s the type of beer you could serve at your next party and satisfy most every person in attendance and it is definitely worthy of a try.

From notes 2/5/13: Pours a slightly hazy deep amber with lots of particulates floating and bubbles clinging to the sides of the glass. Produces 1.5 fingers of off-white/light beige, mostly fine but variously bubbled, somewhat lasting head that recedes to a thin layer leaving on tiny motes of lace on the glass. Aroma is earthy, pine and floral hops with hints of citrus and pineapple, grassy and musty; loaded with malty notes of bread, toast, biscuit and caramel. Aroma is a good balance of hops and malt. Taste is fronted by moderately bitter hop notes of orange, grapefruit, grass and a little pin resin backed by malty flavors of biscuit, cracker, sweet caramel and toast. Again excellent balance between the bitter hop and sweet malt profiles. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, smooth, creamy, crisp and dry with moderate carbonation.

Copper body, clear, small white head and only a little lace on the glass. Notes of sweet bread, pepper, flowers and light citrus. Thin feel, lighter carbonation and clean yet uneventful feel. Session ale in abv but not something I want more than 1 of.

Hoppy, with some malt touches and a bit of a bitterness to it that's hard to pin down. I'm not really a fan of it, as it just seems like it's trying too many things, none of which blend at all.
