12 oz bottle pours a hazed copper color with a fine-bubbled beige head. Retention is ok, and lacing forms a nice ring and collar.

Nose is herbal, floral and leafy hops with a complimentary toast and earth malt. Dry-hopped session ale made me think something tropical and west-coasty, but this is definitely English/East Coast leaning...which is fine, but just find the turn of events muy interesante.

Taste follows suit with the deeper malty flavors providing a bit of depth. The hops are complimentary which is always nice to find...the leafy varietal fits in well. There is even a bit of raisin-esque fruitiness lurking in the background. It drinks like a session ale, fast, smooth and effortless. Good beer, the more (fresh) Shmaltz offerings I have, the more I am impressed with them, most of their standard fare are very solid representations.

Served in an Ohio State shaker pint glass.

Another nod to my man Jonny-Cakes and his heritage (sort of). This one pours a clear brass-amber topped by a finger of lightly-glowing off-white foam. The nose comprises lightly-buttery biscuit, perfume-y flowers, and light pine sap. The taste brings in more of the same, but with a hefty dose of water to thin everything out into a dripping mess. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, this was a pretty sad pale ale, dry-hopped or otherwise. Things just tasted too strangely watered-down and depressing for anything good to come of it.

s - balanced. floral hops with some breadiness underneath.
t - citrus, some pine but more bready with a hint of fruitiness.
m - thin and slick.
o - decent APA but not up to par.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a He'Brew shaker pint glass. From the 2012 Holiday gift pack.

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy copper amber orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. About two fingers of off white head that recede into a thin layer. Leaves a lot of lacing around the glass.

Smell: Aroma is a solid mix of hops and malts. Earthy hops with a little touch of pine and floral hops. Hints of citrus orange, pineapple, and grapefruit. Fairly grassy and musty. Solid presence of bready malts with hints of biscuit, caramel, toffee, toast, and cracker. Aroma is very balanced between the hops and malts. Its a solid smelling beer.

Taste: Like the smell indicates, a very solid taste that is balanced. Upfront is a hop taste that is moderately bitter. Notes of citrus orange, pineapple, lemon, and grapefruit. Grassy and floral hops with a little pine resin. The malts come in with a good taste of biscuit, yeast, sweet caramel, toffee, crackers, and toast. Good balance between the sweetness and bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, crisp, and fairly drying. Very smooth.

Overall: A pretty good take on an American Pale Ale. Well balanced and very tasty.

Poured into a Dogfish Head pint glass. Pours a medium copper amber with a one finger fine white head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of light citrus, tropical fruit, pineapple and light grassy hops. Flavor of citrus hops, biscuit malt, citrus rind with a good citrus, lightly floral hop bitterness on the finish. A very nice pale ale that provides a greater than normal hop satisfaction. Medium bodied and nice mouthfeel for a pale ale. Well done session ale.

Pours a copper tinted amber, moderate cap of bone white foam. Scent is fruity - tropical and citrus - with a faint grassyness and light sweet malt. Taste is quite pleasant - fruity as nose dictated, crisp and clean, light grassyness, malts detected and lightly sweet but not a feature in the flavor. Again a touch too carbonated coming from Schmaltz, but good. Enjoyed this more than expected, could drink a few in a sitting.

A - Hazy copper/ bronze brew with a small but good lookin' eggshell head and some nice lace made of tiny little bubbles.

S - Starfruit (yes there really is such a thing.... I worked in the produce department at our local grocery store in high school), hard-shell gumball like you get from the 25 cent glass-globe machine at the mall, and a hint of a lemon-grass wheat note. The hops show up as a subdued floral, as opposed to citrusy or piney, note. Beers always get a high "smell" score from me when they remind me of odd-ball things I haven't thought about in years.

T - More hop presence than in the nose. Biscuity malts behind a grace note of peppery and saltine cracker wheat. Flowery hops. Well balanced and thoroughly drinkable.

M - Medium bodied, but solidly built. Super creamy at first but finishing quite dry, almost sandy.

This is a well rounded and solidly brewed beer. Hoppy, but not over-done. I like the hint of wheat without a big time wheat presence that might take away from the hops. Actually, now that I'm looking at the bottle I'm surprised that the hop notes came off as floral to my palate. Centennial, cascade, warrior, and simcoe are listed on the front label. Aren't those usually citrus/pine/ American Northwest hops? Good beer whatever is in it!

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Sam Adams cup

A- A bubble copper body with a 3/4" off white head

S- Sweet metallic, bread, earthy, grass, clay?

T- Just as it smells, the malts seem watered down. No sign of grapefruit from the Cascade. Simcoe and Centennial have taken over, making this brew nothing more then earthy hop water.

M- Crisp, light bodied

O- I blame myself for this one, by calling this a session beer, Shmaltz has basically warned me in the title that this beer will be watered down and nearly flavorless. It's asthe if they tasted it, realized howmy below par it is, and said "Just call ita a session, they'll buy it!" and sadly, I did... Would i take a budwieser over this? Maybe not, but there are way better brews that i can call a session beer, for myself.

A. Caramel color with a solid white bubbly head and a good deal of lacing. It has an incredible amount of sediment. It looks gelatinous it is so thick. Some bubbles working their way through the middle.

S. Solid hoppy scent.

T. It has a caramel sweetness. A bit of floral undertone mixed with a grape flavor. Malty with some hoppy bite.

M. More smooth than a carbonated tingle, but a mix of both.

O. It's good and crisp, but is missing that great defining flavor. Everything is solid, if unmemorable.
