Cherry amber with clingy trailing white froth.
Tangelo, papaya and tropical fruit over toffee shortbread.
Orange, strawberry and mango then orange sorbet and pine sap hops.
Grapefruit pit finish and cleanly bitter linger.
Medium, chewy, salty, smooth, oily and crisp.

Citra sure brings the tropical fruit. Punchy for an almost-APA strength (6.9%). Some of that 5 AM Saint crystal and lots of Centennial citrus. Extra malts make this bigger than expected.

Came out a lighter amber with a creamy white head lasting a while and leaving some good lacing. There is a nice hops aroma (not too strong, though) with solid grapefruit notes. A nice malt backbone holds up the great hops flavor throughout. A nice weight to the body with a slight bite on the finish. Overall a very good IPA.

Poured from a 1L growler (tasting room person said that is was kegged on 3/18/14...so, very fresh!) into a Saxo branded, 12oz, high-stemmed tulip glass.

A- Pours an absolutely clear, bronze with nothing more than a 1/2-finger's worth of head (perhaps, poured too cold)...really easy on the eyes, but a bit darker (i.e. too much crystal malt) than I like my IPAs...but whatever, aroma/flavor and mouthfeel are king!

S- Outstanding and complex...oily, resinous, piney hops followed by citrus (grapefruit, lemon/lime zest, tangerine), and then some tropical (pineapple, mango).

T- An absolute explosion of hop flavor! There is just enough malt backbone to support those very piney/resiny/tropical notes from the nose to make this beer coat the palate and demanding another sip.

M- Although the carbonation from a growler can be lighter than to be found in a bottle, there is enough to excite the palate so all of the flavors land on the palate with precision.

O- Although I take umbridge with the fact that they do not date-code the bottles (especially, their hoppier offerings), Shmaltz is turning out some exceptional, hoppy beers: Hop Manna, Death Of A Contract Brewer Black IPA and their DIPA - Bittersweet Lenny's R.I.P.A.

Note: If you can find it, the Case Boxes have a bottled on date: 13C14 (Day, Month, Year) = March 13, 2014

Perhaps being spoiled by its freshness, I do not know why this beer doesn't score higher?
