Bottled on 3/6/2012
Poured into a Duvel tulip
Appearance: Pours an extremely deep, dark brown with a finger tall, light cocoa head which recedes surprisingly quick leaving no lacing.
Aroma: Bourbon slaps your olfactory senses immediately. Some sweet and surprisingly tart malt with faint cocoa highlight the bourbon heavy nose. I'll attribute the tartness to the rye whiskey barrels.
Taste: Definitely follows the nose; Big bourbon enriched, sweet malts with an amazing spicy rye character. Very interestingly tart, bitter and dry finish. A chocolate and light molasses character opens up as the beer warms. Surprisingly easy drinking for a 10% brew.
Mouthfeel: Light, yet simultaneously creamy and syrupy with moderate carbonation.
Overall: An impeccably blended beer that has a remarkable amount of quaff-ability for a such a high ABV Ale. I hope they eventually bring out 4 packs/6 packs of this beer. Highly recommended.

This poured a dark cranberry red to almost brown that gave it a purplish hue in the bar. The head was a tightly knit cap of dense brownish foam.
The aroma is tart, a tad sour and full of balsamic funk. A good amount of sour cherry can be had along with some barrel wood.
The flavor is well matched between barrel and sour. The taste is tangy and tart with cherry, vinegar and sour. The barrel manifests itself in a bit of oak and a touch of vanilla for sweetness. This taste profile compliments the sour cherry very well.
The feel is a bit puckering but not over done and adds to the personality of this ale.
This is listed as a strong ale but this certainly could mask for a well done European Flanders, Oud Bruen or any other sour style ale.

This beer was a deep mahogany brownish color. Poured on tap and very little residual lace, almost non-existent. The aroma included hints of leather, and raisin, but the predominate smell of wet paper and whiskey.
It's taste was acidic and sour to start but finished very clean. Hard to describe how it the alcohol hits your palate, They taste is there, then faded. For the amount of alcohol in this beer, I could not taste it. Well blended
Drinkable from a well balanced abv point of view, but underwhelming on the taste factor. This beer was incredibly thin and underwhelming. After a few sips this beer clearly warmed my belly up.
If you are into freaky, sour, aged beers, then this might be something you will like. I'll probably never reach for it again. For the number of different beers used to make this blended selection, one would think that it might be a bit more complex. Not so much. I think they missed the mark on this one.
