Pours a dark brown, nearly black, cranberry red against the light on the edges. Cinnamon and sugar dominate the aroma while dark cocoa and slight vanilla round things out. Malt is mostly absent besides an oaty presence that is common in oatmeal stouts. Feel is what I notice first from this beer: creamy and slightly watery. It's nice. Semi sweet chocolate lingers through to the cinnamon flavor and beyond. The hops are somewhat aggressive and earthy, barkish. Flavor is somewhat fleeting, making you want another sip. Also of note is the lack of alcohol flavor; ABV is well hidden.

I balked at the cinnamon and as a result it sat in my fridge for over a month before I thought to open it. The feel is a dream and they didn't overdo the cinnamon. The sweet flavors are done with some delicacy, do it doesn't overpower. It's more like a battle for flavor dominance, considering how many flavors are packed into this beer. Surprisingly good.

Poured into a snifter. Glad to finally sample this cool collaboration.

A: A rich, dark brown with a one finger tan head that dissipates slowly. Curtain-y sticky lacing.

S: Coffee strong, followed by dark chocolate and cinnamon. Picking up a hint of vanilla, too.

T: Follows nose with a sweet, robust feel. Coffee really dominates. Spices work in nicely.

M: Medium with medium, creamy carbonation.

O: A great brown ale. Goes down easy.

a fun collaboration for charity with terrapin, and the 2012 has held up well. looks awesome in a beer mug, churning tan head tops a turbulent clear brown liquid with just a smattering of yeast particulate settling out. creamy rich nose like a milk stout, sweet, and retaining a lot of vanilla and cocoa, while the cinnamon is relaxed and just a complimentary addition. sweet brown malt is the base for a very flavorful ale. vanilla all the way through, but it doesn't add any unneeded sweetness. again, the cinnamon is soft, and the cocoa sort of fleshes out the beer with a bitter earthy bakers chocolate complexion. there is a lot going on here, but I admire the balance as well as the cause here. full bodied and candy sweet at the start but finishing a lot more reasonable. enough carbonation to keep it moving too. a nice winter beer that can definitely handle a year in the cellar.

A pretty medium-dark brown, this beer has a dark purple-red hue to it. It grows a tan head at about a finger in height. It holds together very well, and offers some stick as plenty of patching clings to the glass.
There's plenty going on in the nose. It's clearly a brown ale base, into which is integrated some dark fruits, dark bready notes, coffee, and some light and creamy vanilla-like sweetness. With such a nice aroma, I wish I could pick up more.
While plenty is going on in the taste, it's primarily like drinking a smooth black iced coffee; there's more of a clean coffee grounds note, but that's the main impression. Malts are strong, and a little sweetness complements, while it remains lightly earthy throughout.
Nicely robust for a brown, the malts base lays it down on the tongue. Carbonation is moderate, providing a light nip of crispness keeping it lively while it flows smoothly with a firm creaminess.
