Its a lot too handle, very alcohol forward taste, almost like you're drinking a glass of brandi. Goes great with a dessert, flan or ice cream, because it also has a hint of sweetness and cutting it with something mellows out the alcohol potency. This is for the extreme drinker.

Now this is a massive ABV beer, one I enjoyed in several increments over the course of an evening, poured from the bottle into a goblet. Nearly pitch black with a brownish tinge and brown foam, looks like motor oil. Smells as sweet and boozy as you'd expect but without a lot of strong roasted barley or black malt character, more sweet and spicy with woody notes and an undercurrent of purple grape juice. Tastes like milk chocolate cake, dates and raisins, licorice, blackstrap molasses, oak, rum, vanilla, clove, unlit tobacco, another brown spice (maybe nutmeg?) ... There is yet another sweet flavor that almost veers into maple territory. Maybe some coffee, but by this point my tongue is pretty savaged. One is inclined to plumb this brew for new layers of flavor and while the aforementioned list does suggest a wide range of malty and sweet flavors, the 16 hops are almost impossible to discern at the individual level and instead there is a medicinal earthy flavor that blends together with the massive spicy alcohol burn. Drinking this beer in a mindful fashion is like walking into a grotto, looking for new caverns ... Except that just when you think you stumble onto some new passage, you come face to face with a huge grizzly bear named Fusel and have to beat a hasty retreat. This comparison notwithstanding, its a fairly fun experience. Very sweet and warming, makes the mouth and lips numb and leaves a medicinal burn as its calling card. Of course this brew is thick, chewy, and dextrinous, although maybe less so than one would expect (?) ... Its obviously pretty attenuated to contain this much alcohol. Aging might mellow this out. An interesting experiment and not soon forgettable. Curb your enthusiasm around the insane malt and hop bills though. You won't be able to pick them all out.

Had a .3l glass at Beveridge Place in Seattle.

Appearance - dark brown to black, slight head, not much lacing.

Smell - not very much aroma, surprisingly. Maybe this beer was too cold from the tap, but I did sip it over 30 minutes, and didn't get the aroma I was expecting.

Taste - very boozy in a pleasant way. Sweet and complex.

Mouthfeel - creamy and full.

Overall - I liked this beer quite a bit, but didn't love it. For all the 16 hops and 16 malts, and 16% ABV, it didn't quite come together. There's a lot going on in terms of flavor, but I probably wouldn't go back and order another. Pretty dangerously high ABV!

22 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. I have been eyeing this bottle for a while now, so I know this beer is about a year old now, but I doubt the 16.00% abv has mellowed much. This sounds like one of the craziest beers I've tried yet, so I have no idea what to expect.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours with a slight mahogany hue to it, but it appears as opaque motor oil black in the glass. Just over a finger of creamy chocolate mocha head. Some thin scattered lacing. Looks good.

S - Smells rich, dark, sticky, and boozy. Oak wood, bourbon, rum, chocolate, cream, chocolatey fudge syrup, brown sugar, & cold coffee. Some fruitiness present on the end, but it isn't what I would describe as dark fruit, more juicy & earthy. There is no denying that there is a lot going on here.

T - Sticky, boozy chocolate syrup. Caramel. Toffee. Oak wood. Dark malt / coffee bean roast. Brown sugar. Earthy yeast, taffy apples, and some other indistinct fruitiness on the finish. Notes of vanilla, as the beer warms. Again, there is a lot of stuff going on here. Layers of fudgey chocolate roasted goodness.

M - Feel is smooth and creamy, with a long sticky candied, malty, caramel finish.

Overall, a big, bold, and brave beer. Definitely not as hot and messy as others have said, so maybe a year in the bottle did it some good. Sticky, sweet, and hot, but not overly so, and at no point is the massive 16.00% abv apparent, although I'm sure it is destined to doom me. A recommended slow sipper.
