Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a St. Bernardus goblet.

Appearance: Pours a deep brownish amber ruby red with very little bubbles. About two fingers of beige head that slowly fade into a thin patchy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing.

Smell: A sweet, juicy, and toasty dark aroma with some nice yeasty malt and fruit hints. Belgian yeast with some hints of funk, clove, and cinnamon spices. Toasted bready malts with big hints of sweet caramel, toffee, biscuit, grains, nuts, and some chocolate and coffee roast. Also a slight hint of smoke. Sweet brown sugar and candied Belgian sugars. Big mix of fruit scents with hints of dark grapes, bananas, pear, and apple along with dark fruit hints of dates, raisin, figs, plum, and prune. Somewhat sweet smelling but balanced. Good smell.

Taste: Like it smells, a big bready and yeasty Belgian style taste with good notes of fruit and spice. Belgian yeast upfront with notes of funk and cinnamon and clove spicing. Deep toasted bready malts with a taste of sweet caramel, toffee, biscuit, grains, and nuts along with a little roast taste of chocolate, coffee, and a little smoke. Brown sugar sweetness and Belgian candied sugar. Juicy fruit notes of dark grapes, banana, pear, and apple. Dried dark fruit notes of figs, dates, raisin, plum, and prune. A pretty complex and good Belgian style taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with a medium to high level of carbonation. Creamy, juicy, fairly smooth and drying on the finish. A little alcohol heat is felt.

Overall: A pretty solid take on the Rejewvenator. Good fruit esters and dark malt notes with a nice kick of spice.

He'Brew I just don't get them sometimes...2013 release contract brewed at Saratoga Springs, NY same as Mendocino, and some other contract breweries. This is a dubbel doppel hybrid of a dubbel and a doppelbock with fig and date concentrates added. Pours a deep ruby hue with light tan head fine even speckled lacing follows as the head dwindles. Aroma has a grainy character I get from most of the beers contracted at this brewery, however there's a generic fruitiness which has a bit of earthiness to it probably the fig and date concentrate. Sweet flavor as it warms more date/figs come out in the flavor, super sweet raisins, with bready/caramelized malts. Mouthfeel is a bit uneven a bit much carbonation and cloying sugars in between sips. Overall, this is just such a sweet beer it's hard to find balance.

22oz bottle, 2013 edition, a strangely hard offering to come by around here, for some reason (taps his nose, i.e. the rep around these parts maybe not doing their job properly).

This beer pours a clear, very dark ruddy brown colour, with two fingers of puffy, caked beige head, which leaves some nice spooky pock-marked sea-cliff lace around the glass as it gently settles.

It smells of dark, somewhat musty citrus and melon fruit, bready caramel malt, sedate yeast, a hint of oily nuttiness, soft clove and black pepper spice, some darker fig and date fruit notes, and the slightest whiff of sidling alcohol. The taste is semi-sweet caramel malt, a wet sourdough breadiness, muddled clove/coriander spice, faltering Belgian yeast, watered down figs and dates, the suggestion of walking through a cooperage in rubber boots, and earthy, mildly perfumed hops.

The carbonation is pretty innocuous for the most part, the body an airy, yet sturdy medium weight, and quite genially smooth, with a mere suggestion of pithy, fruity creaminess. It finishes on the sweet side, the dates and figs coming round to bear, while the grainy caramel malt sits and quietly fumes.

A decent enough rendition of a Middle Eastern-tinged Belgian staple - this whole Jewish schtick taking itself to its logical conclusion within the Rejewvenator line, i.e. 'let's just add the two previous guest ingredients together for the next one!' Sigh. Anyway, this dubbel's attributes shine through well, I suppose, and the Holy Land approved fruitiness doesn't overdo or interfere all that much, so I have to say, in return, L'Chaim, and good job overall, your mama must indeed be proud. Now freaking send us some 17, #ifuknowwhutimean.

Bottle: Poured a burgundy color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention. Aroma of dry fruits with loads of residual sugars notes. Taste is a mix between molasses, dry fruits, some plums and raisins with load of caramel malt. Body is quite full for style with good carbonation and light warming alcohol. Interesting but too sweet for its own good.

Poured into a He'brew small shaker pint. Pours a medium to dark reddish amber with half finger light tan head with great retention and light lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, toffee, cola, Belgian yeast and spicing, interesting. Flavor of sweet bready malt, dates, other dark dried fruit, cinnamon, brown sugar, holiday and Belgian spicing. Medium bodied with good mouth feel from carbonation. A very unusual take on a dubbel, which is described on the bottle as being a "Belgian Style Dubbel Ale and Doppelbock European Lager". I'd buy that and add "winter warmer" for the spicing. The sweet bready malt is definitely reminiscent of a good doppelbock and the spicing has Belgian influences. The combination of cloves and cinnamon flavors leans towards holiday ales. Like a lot of He'brew ales, quite unusual and well done. I'm really glad to get figs and dates back. The "Rejewvenator Year Of the Fig" and "Year of the Date" each were really enjoyable. If you want to see other reviews of this beer, see recent reviews of "Rejewvenator Year of the Fig", since for some reason, this beer wasn't listed here until now and people reviewed under the closest beer (which was brewed only once, many years ago).
