On a recent stay in San Francisco, I checked into my hotel (in the downtown area), walked out and looked for a place to have a beer. The first place I came across was the Urban Tavern. They had eight or nine taps. Not a whole lot but it included Pliny, Blind Pig, two selections from Ale Smith, New Belgium, Anderson Valley, 21st Amendment. Basically an all star list.
Overall, it's a brightly lit place with the bar area in the front and a restaurant in the back, which is connected to a hotel (I believe the Hilton). Servers were nice, but not very knowledgable about beer.
Food was very good. Typical gastropub fare such as Buffalo style frog legs, fish stew with bacon, fish and chips, meatloaf sliders, sausage and pretzel...you get the picture.
There were a number of good beer bars right in the downtown neighborhood but this was the only one that had Russian River..and to think i literally just ran into it.
Anyway, it's worth the visit if you're there.
