In the Gas Lamp Quarter of San Diego, there seems to be infinite number of places to dine while enjoying a proper pint. My girlfriend and I stopped here only because it just so happened to be the first place we saw after we parked. That turned out to be a blessing.
Atmosphere: typical indoor/outdoor cafe set among a sprawling downtown area. clean and new.
Quality/Selection: there is a fairly impressive selection of local and semi-rare craft beers. There is honestly something here for anyone. I was excited to get a Lost Abbey Avant Garde, while my girl got a local hefe.
Service: very enthusiastic and helpful
Food: high end at a decent price. it was very tasty and unique.
This is a place that I would love to go to again!

I come to this place to watch NY Giants games and enjoy some beer and appetizers. The atmosphere is nice, as everyone who comes on Sundays is pretty much here to see the Giants. The quality is nice, but during games the place can get quite crowded. Service is nice and efficient, but the servers seem to know very little about beer. The selection of beers is pretty good, but every Sunday that I go in there seems to be the same beers on the line-up. It would be nice to see some new beers on the draft list. The food I have had so far has beer pretty darn goo, but I can only comment on the appetizers as I haven't had any on the entrées. The garlic parmesan knotty wings and truffle fries are amazing. The prices here are reasonable compared to other beer bars. Overall, its a nice place to come enjoy some brews and watch some sports.

My experiences with Knotty Barrel have been a bit polarizing, but on the whole, good. On most occasions, the servers remember my girlfriend and I when we come in and are friendly and helpful. However, one time when I ordered a bottle conditioned beer, the server poured the entire bottle, including the yeast, into my glass. It was disappointing that the server didn't know how to properly serve a bottle conditioned beer considering this bar is trying to sell itself on being a beer joint. The food is also polarizing. The appetizers are outright amazing (friend pickles and truffle fries), but the entrees (angus burger and salad) were bland and dry. The beer selection, while above average, tends to rehash the same beers and breweries week after week. It would be nice to see the taps rotated once in a while. All in all, this is a great place to come for happy hour, but I would not recommend it for dinner.
