750ml bottle served in a snifter glass.

A: Beautiful presentation: corked bottle with a nice golden label. However, when opened, it does not present any strong carbonation to justify its cork. Pours a clear orange color forming a small fainting white head that has low retention and leave only few spotty lacings in the glass

S: Strong notes of toffee, caramel malts and honey. Quite sweet in the nose. Quite fruity too with some notes of grapes and raisins. Notes of flowery hops. A bit boozy in the end

T: Sweet upfront. Notes of toffee, caramel malts, honey, grapes, raisins. Light but present bitterness. Again, some alcohol notes of the end

M: Heavy body. A bit molasses. Medium to low carbonation. Bittersweet aftertaste

O: Medium drinkability. Not a big deal. I was expecting much more but it sounds like Germans should be more concerned about producing good Lager and not bad Ales...

75cl bottle poured twice into westmalle chalice

2011 vintage

A- Amber body with excellent clarity. 2 finger creamy head reduces to a thin crown quickly with very good lacing

T- lots of toffee and treacle sweetness, hint of pepper and strawberry jam

S- lots of toffee sweetness up front, hint of strawberry jam and vanilla coming through and a note of toasted malt comes through in the full finish.

M- low carbonation, full body, touch sticky

D- it's certainly sweet. Liked it more the more I drank it. Alcohol well hidden but a finish a bit clumsy. For me the jury is still undecided to be honest.

Something completely out of the ordinary in the land of pilseners and hefeweizens, I picked up a bottle of this at the local Getränke shop in my small town in Germany. It came in a BOX, with a price tag almost 10 times every other beer in the store.

Poured into a wine glass (most appropriate thing at my disposal), this is golden and fizzy. Smell is thick and sweet, with some hints of honey, hops, and pinesap. Taste is surprisingly mellow, with some oak notes and lots of sweetness. This has very little in common with most Belgian tripels, with none of the spiciness you would usually find there. Alcohol is hidden very well, but I would say the flavor is a little too mellow.

All in all, this is an okay beer, and a welcome change of pace for someone stranded in the Stuttgart area.

Appearance: Golden/honey; medium, frothy head, good lacing

Aroma: Sweet; slight pepper smell; hints of strawberry jam

Taste: Malty, creamy on start; slightly syrupy body with semi-sweet, hoppy finish; well balanced overall

Remarks: Enjoyable, but not spectacular; certainly did not live up to its packaging

Did not score A, T, S, M at that time; disregard those scores
