Poured from a 16.9 oz. bottle into a pokal glass.
Appears a hazy dark copper color with a big three inch off-white head that continues to rise. Eventually it gets tamed and leaves some decent lace.
Aromas of smoked meat as usual, but not as intense as the other two Schlenkerla beers. This one doesn't really come across quite as meaty as the other two either, it's more like a campfire. There's a very light fruitiness that might be the usual weizen banana but it's hard to tell through the smoke.
Taste is not as smoky either. I'm getting the wheat malt up front with some slight fruitiness coming in midway through. It's hard to make it out exactly but there's a little bit of banana for sure. Perhaps some apple/pear type esters. The smoke comes in more in the finish of the beer, lingering in the aftertaste. A bit of spiciness enters towards the end as well.
Mouthfeel is pretty light, crisp, and highly carbonated.
I always wondered what a smoked Hefeweizen would be like...now I know. It's pretty good, but I'd take either of the other two Schlenkerla beers over this one.

500 ml bottle into weizen glass, no bottle dating. Pours very hazy deep reddish brown color with a 2-3 finger dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of banana, clove, toast, brown bread, wood smoke, wheat, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with well balanced fruity/spicy yeast, dark/bready malt, and wood smoke notes; with good strength. Taste of banana, clove, toast, brown bread, wheat, wood smoke, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy yeast spice on the finish; with lingering notes of banana, clove, toast, brown bread, wheat, wood smoke, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/bready malt, and wood smoke flavors; with a great smoke/yeast/malt balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth and moderately crisp/creamy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with no warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice smoked weizen. All around well balanced fruity/spicy yeast ester, dark/bready malt, and wood smoke flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
