Served in .5l willibecker at Track 84. Pours a deep mahogany with a dense, quarter inch, off-white head. Nose is smokey with some caramel notes - definitely a smoked meat quality, but not as apparent as in some of the other Schlenkerla beers that I've had. Taste expresses smoked pork, some earthy char at the back and some caramel which is a bit more toasty than sweet in the flavor profile. Mouthfeel is medium-light in body with a crisp carbonation and a touch of dryness at the finish. Overall, a bit more subdued than the Marzen and drinks easier, somewhat akin to a smokey brown ale; however, I have to say that if I'm going for a Rauchbier, I'd have to go with the Marzen.

Tap: Poured a clear light maple color ale with a small foamy head with average retention. Aroma consists of smoked malt with light woody notes and floral undertones. Taste is dominated by easy drinking notes of smoked malt with light wood notes and floral undertones. Body is full with somewhat of a fat mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Great mix between complexity and drinkability.

It pours in a dark brown color with a light white head.

It smells of a rauchbier, but has a lighter flavor. It has a great carbonation and has a lighter and easier to drink smokey flavor than Schlenkerla Rauchbier. It has bacon, breadiness, a good roasted malt, and wonderful smokiness.

This beer continues to prove how good Schlenkerla's smoke beer line up is. None of them have failed me and this is possibly their best.

On tap at Max's Taphouse in Baltimore. Served in a pint glass.

Cloudy dark brown body with a wonderful rocky head and excellent head retention.

Aroma has tons of smoke, bacon, along with some dark fruit. Smells a lot like a campfire.

Lots of smoke on the taste with cooked meat. There is also a pleasant fruityness reminiscent of figs and raisins. Definitely some bacon. There is a little tartness but it is not over the top. Mouthfeel is full with a slightly sticky finish.

Probably the best rauchbier I have every had. The smoke is extremely intense and over the top but yet there are numerous other subtle flavors that manage to come through. I'm extremely fortunate to have tasted this beer and I really hope I find it again sometime.

Had a friend pick out my last beer of the night at Max's and was presented with this. Smells like a straight up campfire.. the smokiness in the aroma was as pungent as I've ever smelt in a beer. Was a bit worried about how the taste would be, but man was I blown away... it tastes like a campfire, but it's also delicious. Smoked meat and bacon flavors come through and it's flavorful and incredibly well balanced. Goes down smoothly with a great finish. By far one of the best smoked beers I've had and would order another one the next chance I get, worth seeking out for sure!

On-tap at Churchkey in DC, poured into a pokal glass.

A- Pours a slightly hazy ruddy brown color with a finger of off-white head, nice retention and lacing.

S- The aroma is excellent, it has a really delicious smoked meat / bacon aroma, as well as smoky burnt beechwood and some light hops. For me the aroma is always the best part of rauchbiers, and this one does it very, very well.

T- Retains a lot of the great meatiness and smoke from the aroma, although slightly toned down. The malt really steps forward, with a bit of caramel and fruitiness and is accented by a light hoppiness.

M- Medium-bodied, smooth creamy feel.

O- A really nice rauchbier, the aroma is amazing, and as usual Schlenkerla has done an awesome job, although I think I slightly prefer both the regular Urbock and Marzen.

Thick 2 finger head with excellent retention on a clear deep amber body. Aroma is like a meat dominated breakfast with ham and bacon combined with mesquite and BBQ aromas. Flavor is mild which is good for the style with a very smooth toasted malt and mesquite flavor finishing smokey with BBQ notes. Medium body and lighter side of moderate carbonation. This is a very highly drinkable smoked beer with an excellent chocolate and caramel sweetness. Definitely the most drinkable rauchbeir and one of the best tasting of the style I have had. Very well balanced.
