I actually had this one on-tap and in the bottle, thanks to the mini-bar in my tiny hotel room! First of all, you can get this beer at any bar, it is kinda like the miller or bud lite in Finland.
A- Nothing special. Little head and decent golden color.
S- Again, nothing special about it. Smell was bland and meek, but with a touch of hops.
T- Not too bad as far as taste goes. Average, average, average...
M- Little bit of carbonation, but mild bubbles that dissapate quickly.
D- Since it is one of the most prominant beers I tried in Lahti and Helsinki, you have not much choice but to drink it. It is very average (again) and nothing to write home about. I cannot speak Finnish, but everyone understood "one beer" in english, and this is what I got. No worries, just not anything stand-outish.

Pours a one finger white head that fades quickly, leaving a trace of lace. Crystal clear amber color. Light-medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Hoppy nose. Flavor is one-dimensional remarkably similar to American macros. 330ml bottle 3.50 at a restaurant in Rovaniemen, Finland. From my notes - 7/11/2008.

In the broad spectrum of middle-of-the-pile sort of macro lagers, Karhu III would in fact be the middle-most.
The beer, well, it's a macro. It hasn't got much to say about it. well, pour is- guess...pale straw, translucid and considerably carbonated with a small white head that has a rather poor retention.
Smell is hoppy at best, a slight grainy hint comes accross but isn't all that perceivable or important here.
The taste isn't all too bad, it's not hoppy but rather focuses on a wheaty/grainy flavour which dominates, and is rather pleasant to a certain extent.
It's overall not too bad. it's neutral- much like the rest of scandinavia.

I spent a week in Finland and this was the prefered beer of the selection available. I would compare this selectio to be the Budweiser of Finland.
Appearance was a dark straw color with a minimal head.
Smell was weak with very slight hoppiness.
Taste was an average beer taste. Nothing special.
Mouthfeel was again just average. A bit of carbonation keeps the liquid moving in the mouth.
Overall an average drink.
I was able to bring a couple can of Karhu back with me if anyone wants to trade and try the brew for themselves.

12 oz brown bottle. Freshness date stamped on back label.
It pours a shiny gold color with a substantial foamy head and some sticky and patchy lacing.
A smell of cut lawn and dry malt dominate. A light smell of citrusy hops adds a little perfume to the air.
The light-medium malt body has a crisp, dry and raw kind of edginess to it, creating a raspy, back of the throat feel. A mild grainy taste is noticed.
The hops have, in equal parts, a citrusy lemon tartness and a metallic bite.
A light sweetness emerges as it warms. The fine little bubble remains active for a long time.

Best thing about this beer is its aroma. Poured with a fizzy white head that settled out right away and no lace. Color is a deep amber with lots of large bubble trails. Aroma is beery, malt, and a little hop. Flavor is sharp with the carbonic tang and sweet, but not all malt sweet. Also a little wet cardboard. Body's on the thin side and carbonation is overdone. Finish is like flavor and of medium length. Don't want any more.

A: Pours rather dark golden with a large off-white head. Dissipation leaves some lacings.
S: A bit soapy smell. Some bitter hops lingers in the back. Bready malt, sweet.
T: Rich bready malt, semi-sweet, combined with nice bitter hops.
M: Bready and bitter aftertaste. Body as well as carbonation is medium.
O: A very average Euro Pale Lager.

Tested: Can and bottle
A - golden/amber color with little head (almost nothing)
S - almost nothing, atleast nothing special; some hop flavor in the smell.
T - thin body; not too bad. It is one of the student beers in Finland. Lapin Kulta if you're poor; Karhu III for an upgrade. Has to be really cold to have a real finish beer experience
M - almost no carbonation but good feel.
D - very good. Has to be icecold though! Good beer to hang with friends in a pub in Finland.
To be honest, I have seen Finland's beers reviewed here. You should judge them only after sitting in sauna for hours and rolling in the snow => you did life in Finland.
