Poured into pint glass during Portland Mighty Mites small beer festival~
One of the highlights of the fest, and one more reason why I heart Lompoc! Notes state it was brewed with pale, brown, chocolate, and peat smoked malts and toasted barley flakes (yum!)
Pours a gorgeous brown hue with pure white foam leaving a nice lace. On the nose this is all about the caramel malt and smoke with hints of roasted nuts, fig, and cooked oats. Definitely some Challenger hops on the nose and English yeast. Does remind me a bit of Newcastle on the nose.
Palate not quite as complex as the nose, yet it is extremely polished and streamlined with emphasis on the nutty flavors with caramel and fig and a hint of smoke.
Texture is lovely, not too light, with a good amount of acidity to cut through the sweetish flavors, a touch of mild bitterness rounds things out.
Overall a very good brown ale/dark mild (it's kind of in between in my opinion - though they list it as an British Mild Ale). I could drink this all night and the next day!
Serving type: on-tap
