I had this as part of their sampler. I'm not a big fan of bock as I usually find it to be a bit boring. This one too fits that billing but the flavors here are at least stronger accross the board so if you like bock, you may like this one. As a bock should have, there is a nice complex malt aroma and taste. However, there is more hop bitterness and flavor than usual for a bock and this somewhat maskes the malt more that it should. While this hop flavor is good and fresh and of a noble variety, it is also a little off balance and maybe a little to common to make this beer truely interesting. I would however enjoy this beer if I were to come accross it by accident but I don't think its a beer I would buy. If you like bock, though, you might give it a chance.

This beer is called Tu Hellen Bock on their menu. The color is dark amber with not much head action. Aroma is of generic dark bready malts, not a bad smell, but not very rousing either. The taste is malty, more American in flavor than German and not very rich. Finish includes a touch of hops which provide some drying. Drinkability is very good, this is one of those dark lagers that you can drink quite a bit without getting very bored or full. My overall impression is that this beer is modeled after Shiner Bock and not true German bocks. Still, this comes off with more flavor than Shiner, without losing any ease in drinking.

2-day-old Growler. Believe the full name is tu Helen Bock, or something like that.
Aroma: Malt base with some mild floral hop notes
Appearance: Deep gold that looks too light for a Bock in my opinion. Nice white head, even from the 3rd or 4th pour from the growler, and nice rocky lace.
Flavor: Focus on the malt, but none of the toasting I expect from most Bocks. Also has a nice spice note, a bit peppery, so it might just be the hops. Rich malt taste but not sweet.
Mouthfeel: Medium body with a light coat at the end that lets the spicy hop fade slowly.
Overall Impression: Bocks normally arent what I think of as a session beer, but this one made a day of weekend work go by smoothly. I found it to be a bit off in classic style, but very drinkable and enjoyable. It was close to a Butthead Bock, but much lighter in body and taste (as it should be, Butthead is a doppelbock). I enjoyed this and will probably make it my default growler fill, after checking out the seasonals.

Appearance: Clear medium amber color with abundant carbonation a small white head with limited retention, good broken lace.
Aroma: Pleasant, slightly sharp malt aroma with some hops.
Taste: Begins with a solid, slightly toasty malt backbone, with a hint of tartness, this carries throughout the taste, towards the finish, some mild hops appear. The finish is slightly dry.
Mouth feel: Very smooth and pleasant, with a decent amount of body.
Drinkability/notes: A decent, although unexceptional Bock, I found it to be far better than Shiner Bock.
